Former Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is out of prison and off the air, but she's still got a lot of her story to tell, and is doing it with an explosive new book.

Amber's tell all Never Too Late opens up about her rise to fame and fall from grace, her stint in an Indiana prison and her life since her release.

The book will be released August 26, and Portwood told Radar she chose a selfie for the cover because it was symbolic of all she'd been through:

“I wanted to incorporate a selfie onto the Never Too Late book cover because I thought it was symbolic of the journey I had to take when writing the book.”

“In writing this book I had to step back and really take a look at my actions and life both before and after my jail time,” the 24-year-old added.

Also, “the selfie has become so mainstream that everyone can relate to it and my story and journey is one that a lot of people can relate to."

Amber Portwood, Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell and Farrah Abraham were the original four stars of Teen Mom. All have had their issues since.

No one can quite top Amber's problems with domestic violence, drugs, rehab, and hard core state prison while starring on the hit MTV show, however.

Amber Portwood has been through a lot in her life, but by all accounts, she is doing better recently, and has cleaned up her act since being let out of prison.

That doesn't mean she doesn't attract her fair share of haters, and then some. Typically it's losers trolling her online, though ... not waiters at Applebee's!

On Tuesday, she Tweeted, "It's kind of terrible when you have to leave Applebee's because one of the waiters are glaring at me with the dirtiest look...sad :-/"

Is the waiter friends with Gary Shirley? Does he watch Teen Mom online but not read celebrity gossip and still assume she's a mess? Is he just a jerk?

We will never know. Of course it could be that she is just paranoid, making up the scenario in her head. It's a scenario more than one fan threw out there.

Not so, Amber Portwood insists, writing:

Amber Portwood has more or less dropped off the face of the earth as far as the American public is concerned, but she resurfaced this week to do an interview with Maury Povich, and for some reason the topic of Justin Bieber came up.

Asked what she thought about the Biebs' recent antics, Amber replied, "He wants attention. I remember being a teenager. I wanted attention, I wasn't getting it, so I did crazy stuff."

Maury didn't bother mentioning that Bieber isn't a teenager, but he did point out that Justin gets plenty of attention as a result of his music, basically implying that it's only no-talent trainwrecks like Amber need to publicly misbehave in order to stay famous.

Seeming to miss this point, Amber replied, "It's about publicity and it's about money. That's all it is."

Amber Portwood, one of MTV's original Teen Mom cast members, reveals that she never got along with her notorious co-star Farrah Abraham. At all.

Both reality stars gained quite a bit of notoriety from the popular show, and since, with Amber doing hard time and Farrah doing a hard ... James Deen.

When they would meet at reunion specials? TENSION.

Portwood, who was recently released from prison, sat down with Life & Style and explained the nature of her turbulent relationship with Farrah Abraham.

"We hated each other for a long time," she said.

"Behind the scenes at reunions, there were incidents where things got heated. Nobody was backing down. We both at the time had some huge attitudes."

But the bitterness has since subsided, at least.

Amber Portwood recently offered some tough love advice for fellow troubled Teen Mom star Jenelle Evans, and the latter didn't take too kindly to it.

Amber Portwood ... I never judged u or said one negative thing since u have been out of jail ... Why start with me? Can’t be happy I suppose,” Evans hit back.

“I love how I look towards more of the positive side of things, yet ex teen moms want to try to bring me down. It’s sad, focus on yourself,” she lamented.

Jenelle, who is pregnant with her second child, this time by Nathan Griffith, believes she's got it together these days ... way more than Farrah Abraham in fact.

Yet given that we're still talking about Jenelle, the consensus is that she's still an emotional basket case and a loose cannon with a tenuous grip on reality.

As such, Portwood blasted Evans’ alleged drug use during her pregnancy and believed she could benefit from being locked up, just like she was.

“As scary as it seems, it would change her life for the better,” Amber said.

Amber Portwood is out of jail, on the straight and narrow and speaking out about her experiences, as well as other Teen Mom alumni she feels are headed for trouble.

COUGH ... Jenelle. Cough. Jenelle Evans. Cough, cough!

In an interview with In Touch, Amber shared her advice for Jenelle, whom she fears might follow in her dark footsteps and wind up in a very bad place.

She hasn't hit rock bottom ... yet. But she's at risk.

"She went down the exact path I did: unplanned pregnancy, addiction, bad relationships, having custody taken away," Amber says of Jenelle Evans.

"But it’s never too late for Jenelle to turn her life around. Jenelle hasn’t hit rock bottom yet. But if her rock bottom is lower than mine, that makes me scared for her."

Amber Portwood, for all she's done very, very wrong, seems to own it 100 percent these days, openly acknowledging the myriad mistakes she's made.

Three months after Amber Portwood got out of prison, she's sober and savoring her hard-fought sobriety, but admits she still wants to get high sometimes.

In a chilling scene on her MTV special Being Amber, she revealed that “I’m always gonna want to get high,” just like she "always" was on Teen Mom.

“I’ve f--king been wanting to get high all day, since I woken [sic] up this morning,” the mother of five-year-old daughter Leah says. “I swear to god.”

Despite getting sober in prison, where she spent the previous 17 months, she says that staying clean on the outside is much harder than she’d expected.

“Being free is so much different than being in prison and being sober,” Amber Portwood said, adding that every single passing day, “It’s just so hard!”

“I’m always gonna have triggers. I’m always gonna wanna get high. That’s never gonna go away. My best way to cope right now is hanging out with family.”

Like her former co-star Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood was the focal point of an hour-long Teen Mom special presentation last night on MTV.

Both reality stars have struggled and experienced their ups and downs, but few celebrities - or people in general - have hit the lows Amber experienced.

Portwood was famously hit with a five-year prison sentence following a series of drug-related arrests and failure to get clean as part of her probation.

After 17 months behind bars, she's out. But what's life like these days for her?

When talking with her family about her time in prison, Portwood was honest.

"It's been a year and a half of hell," she says, looking back on her incarceration. "It was really bad. But I worked on myself and worked to make myself better."

As for reuniting with her daughter Leah after spending that long locked up?

Amber Portwood breaks down emotionally in her upcoming MTV special, Being Amber, about some of the past mistakes she's made. It's not a short list.

Unlike former co-star Farrah Abraham, who will also be featured in an hour-long special, Being Farrah, on Sunday night, Amber is keenly self-aware.

Prison will do that. Following her release from the big house last November, the Teen Mom alum returned home to Indiana to be with her 5-year-old daughter.

Readjusting to life in the real world has not been easy, though, especially when the reality of how much time she missed with Leah starts to hit home.

"I feel so f--king bad," she says, sobbing. "I left her for so long...I know why she's acting the way she is. She's afraid that I'm gonna f--king leave her again."

"I just f---ing hate myself for everything I did," Amber Portwood continues tearfully. "It was all the drugs and s--t. It was all I did. All I did was get f--ked up."

Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood and Catelynn Lowell are reuniting on MTV. Sort of. The network is airing catch-up specials on the three original Teen Mom stars.

A lot has happened since they first starred on 16 & Pregnant, for sure.

Stars of Teen Mom

One of the four women pictured above has become a full-on porn star.

One of them has done a year and a half of time in an Indiana prison.

One continues to have relationship issues with her fiance/stepbrother.

One does not have a catch-up special coming up for some reason.

No clue why Maci Bookout won't be joining Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood, and Catelynn Lowell, but those three will each be featured Sunday night.

MTV will air three one-hour documentary specials back-to-back-to-back. They'll be called Being Farrah, Being Catelynn, and Being Amber, airing in that order.

They should've gone with Being Inside Farrah. Too much, maybe?

For more on that, follow the link for stills and the trailer for the newly-released Farrah Abraham sex tape sequel. Then relive the craziest Teen Mom moments below!
