Contrary to earlier reports, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez did not sit next to each other at last night's Billboard Music Awards.

But the estranged couple did greet each other with a peck on the cheek backstage. Much to the chagrin of Taylor Swift.

In a gif making its way around the Internet, Selena and Justin stop for a friendly, semi-romantic gesture... only for Taylor to catch a peek of her bestie and Bieber and react in hilariously disgusted fashion.

All three artists also performed at the ceremony, as Swift sang 22, Bieber sang Take You and Gomez sang Come & Get It.

But why do we have a feeling all anyone will be talking about today is the actions of these three backstage, not on the stage?

Like her ex-boyfriend, Selena Gomez courted some controversy at last night's Billboard Music Awards.

With Justin Bieber singing his own praises and addressing haters while accepting the Milestone Award, Gomez ignored her critics and donned a Bindi once again while performing the track "Come & Get It."

Religious leaders in the past have taken Selena to task for inappropriately sporting this symbol on stage.

According to a Star Magazine source, Selena didn't just fly to Norway last month because she missed her ex-boyfriend.

She was apparently “brought it by Justin’s mentor and best friend, Pastor Judah Smith, to stop [Bieber] from falling apart."

Bieber, of course, has been making news for all the wrong reasons over the past few months, smoking pot...spitting at neighbors... and taking his shirt off at odd times.
