The past year has been quite a rollercoaster ride for Ryan Edwards and his loved ones.
When Ryan completed rehab in late 2018, his family and friends greeted him with cautious optimism.
They were hopeful, but they were also understandably fearful.
After all, Edwards had been down this road before, and it had never ended well in the past.
Sure enough, their worst fears were eventually confirmed when Ryan was arrested for possession and thrown in jail.
And no one was angrier about Ryan's transgression than his OG baby mama, Maci Bookout.
Check it out.
These are tough times for everyone who still cares about Ryan -- and that group includes his ex, Maci Bookout.
Reason to Be Mad
Prior to Ryan's imprisonment, Maci filed for a restraining order against Bentley's dad in response to violent threats he issued to her husband.
But while she may not want the unstable Edwards near her family, she still very clearly cares about Ryan.
A Painful Chapter
Monday's episode of Teen Mom OG saw Maci grappling with some complex emotions in the wake of Ryan's imprisonment.
At the time the episode was filmed, Ryan was soon to be released -- a fact that further complicated Maci's situation.
"Are you okay with Bentley seeing Ryan?" Taylor asked at one point. "I don't know how Bentley's feeling," said Maci, "I haven't talked to him about it."
"I think he handles it well on the outside," Maci replied. "No 10 year old should handle some things like this this well. That scares me."
Facing the Truth
"He doesn't know how to face these feelings, which means he's burying them somewhere," she said of her eldest son.
Assessing the Situation
"He doesn't have the tools to handle this on his own in a healthy way," she continued. "He doesn't. It would be ignorant for us to think that he does."
Insult to Injury
Making matters worse, Maci says, is the fact that she's "a little disappointed" that Edwards didn't "make much of an effort" to contact Bentley during his time behind bars.
The Cold Shoulder
Maci noted that Bentley has his own cell phone, and Ryan could have reached out to him at any time -- but chose not to.
Enter Jen and Larry
Later in the episode, Edwards' wife, Mackenzie Standifer, spoke with Ryan's parents, Jen and Larry Edwards. She mustered optimism for Ryan's future, but admitted that the situation has left her "tired as f--k.'
Yes, Maci isn't the only one who's been put through the emotional wringer by Ryan's brushes with the law.
On Her Own
When Ryan was arrested, Mack was left at home with the couple's newborn son. Edwards had missed the birth while he was in rehab.
A Lonely Life
Needless to say, it's been a lonely year for Standifer, but it seems she bears no ill will toward Ryan. In fact, she's mostly worried about he feels toward her.
We Don't Think You Have to Worry...
Speaking with one of her friends about the Ryan situation, Mackenzie revealed that she hopes he "still likes me" when he gets out of jail.
The Bentley Factor
Though mostly worried with her own young family, Mackenzie shares Maci's concerns about the strained relationship between Ryan and his eldest son.
"I know Ryan wants to talk to Bentley one on one, I don't think he knows what to say," she told her friend.
"He's around some pretty hard criminals and I think he's starting to realize he does not ever want to be there," Mackenzie said of Ryan's time behind bars.
Eyes Wide Open
"It's been an eye-opener," she concluded. "I just can't wait to have my family back under one roof."
So Far, So Good
Ryan was released back in April, and thus far, he has yet to screw up again. Here's hoping he can keep it going.
