What's not to love about Tom Cruise? Well, potentially a lot of things. But all in all, he's a quality actor with dozens of good films on...

The scandalous $50 million defamation lawsuit Tom Cruise levied against tabloid publisher Bauer Publishing has been settled with scant few details available.

Tom was livid at being portrayed as a deadbeat dad who abandoned his daughter Suri during his divorce from Katie Holmes, and sued the publisher.

News of the suit’s resolution came via an e-mail from Lindsay Ferraro, PR director for Bauer celebrity gossip magazines, In Touch and Life & Style.

“[The lawsuit] has been settled,” she said of the deal between the two parties. “Terms of the settlement were not disclosed and will remain confidential.”

So after a deposition that gave us insight into Scientology, Suri, Tom's divorce and Cruise (sort of) likening himself to a soldier in Afghanistan ... that's it.

Tom Cruise and Laura Prepon are a fledgling new couple, according to reports, with the movie star allegedly on "cloud nine" and smitten with the actress.

British magazine Grazia (via The Independent) claims the 51-year-old Hollywood hunk became friends with Prepon through their Scientology social circle.

Cruise, like everyone else, watched Orange is the New Black Season 1 and saw how awesome Laura is in it, which only fueled his attraction to her.

He reportedly took her out to dinner at The Renaissance at The Manor Hotel, surprising her in a classic car and with a 1979 bottle of merlot.

The insider alleged that it went so well, the duo returned to the restaurant for a second Sunday brunch date, and later hung out at John Travolta's house.

Tom's rep says not to get your couch-jumping hopes up, though.

Mark Wahlberg went OFF this week on actors comparing themselves to soldiers in an expletive-filled rant that did not name Tom Cruise by name, but ...

Given the controversy over comments in Cruise's lawsuit deposition in which he compares acting to fighting in Afghanistan, the implication is clear.

Speaking at the AFI Festival, Wahlberg lashed out, "For actors to sit there and talk about 'oh I went to SEAL training? I don't give a f--k what you did."

"For somebody to sit there and say 'my job was as difficult as being in the military.' How f--king dare you, while you sit in a makeup chair for 2 hours."

"I don't give a s--t if you get your ass busted. You get to go home at the end of the day. You get to go to your hotel room. You get to order your f--king chicken."

Reports are going around that in a recent lawsuit deposition, Tom Cruise likened his A-list movie star filming schedule to being a soldier in Afghanistan.

A more thorough review of the exchange reveals that's not really the case.

First and foremost, it was his attorney, not Cruise himself, who first made the comparison between the two. In response, the opposing lawyer asked:

"Your counsel equated your absence from [Suri Cruise] for extended periods of time as being analogous to someone fighting in Afghanistan. Are you aware of that?"

Tom's lawyer objected, then said he could answer. He said, "I didn't hear Afghanistan, but that's what it feels like, and certainly on this last movie, it was brutal."

When he says "it was brutal," Cruise appears to laugh a bit.

Tom Cruise suspected that Katie Holmes used the paparazzi to her advantage, with the goal of portraying him as a cruel nut job, according to treasure trove of emails.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Picture

A brutal back and forth exchange between the stars' camps that often featured their 7-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise, in the center, came to light for the first time this week.

Cruise is suing a tabloid, In Touch, for $50 million for claiming he abandoned Suri during the pair's divorce. As such, he was deposed and many revelations were uncovered.

In August 2012, Cruise’s team suspected a tough cover story on the dad’s alleged over-the-top efforts to charm his daughter were planted by Holmes “in true scum form."

Tom's publicist Amanda Lundberg suspected the source of leaked information regarding Cruise taking Suri to Disney World on a private jet was Jeanne Yang, Holmes’ stylist.

Tom Cruise admitted in a deposition something we've long assumed was true: Katie Holmes divorced him in part because of his controversial Scientology faith.

The actor was deposed in the $50 million libel suit he is filing against a celebrity news magazine that claimed he abandoned daughter Suri Cruise.

He denies this vehemently (which should be obvious if he's filing a lawsuit over it), despite the fact that no one takes In Touch Weekly at all seriously.

No one would've ever thought that Tom abandoned Suri, but nevertheless, he was grilled by ITW's counsel as part of his quest to make them pay.

The lawyer for the tabloid magazine repeatedly asked if Katie Holmes' divorce from him was because of the Church, with which he is famously aligned.

Note to all you tabloids: Do not mess with Tom Cruise. He does not view bad celebrity gossip lightly, even if few take your magazines seriously anyway.

He is a man who is very private about his personal life, cares a lot about his reputation, and has more money than small countries. Just leave him be.

Some celebs, such as Kim Kardashian, likely view any publicity as good publicity. Being in the exploitation business, you can sort of see why, too.

Tom Cruise is not in the exploitation business, however, and he is suing celebrity gossip magazine Life & Style for claiming he “abandoned” his daughter.

In the wake of his split from Katie Holmes, Tom says he never turned his back on Suri Cruise, and wants legal payback against L&S for saying he did.

She and Tom Cruise ended their union over a decade ago, but at one point, Nicole Kidman tells Vanity Fair that she felt like the original Brangelina.

Kidman says she has zero regrets about moving away from Hollywood, however, and that she has found her true love with current husband Keith Urban.

Excerpts from her extensive Vanity Fair Q&A below ...

On her marriage to Tom Cruise (1990-2001): "I was so young. And you know, with no disrespect to what I had with Tom, I've met my great love now."

"And I really did not know if that was going to happen. I really did not known if that was going to happen. I wanted it, but I didn't want it for a while."

"I didn't want to jump from one relationship to another. I had a lot of time alone, which was eally good, because I was a child, really, when I got married."

When students of the Joanne Baron/D.W. Brown Studio attended their graduation, they were treated to a speech by Tom Cruise.

It wasn't the Tom Cruise as pictured in the Edge of Tomorrow poster, or the Tom Cruise of recent Scientology drama (did you catch that whole Leah Remini Scientology dustup?), but rather a Tom Cruise that was funny and even relatable.

Telling stories of wanting to make his mom and sisters laugh and his experiences on the set of his first movie, Taps, this Tom Cruise is a guy that seems far removed from the Oprah couch jumper.

Tom Cruise.

He jumps on couches, gets married a lot, loves Scientology and shares opinions on certain issues that many consider out of the mainstream.

We know this. But what's really wrong with the guy? He's been one of Hollywood's biggest stars for three decades now and is basically harmless.

So let's all take a moment and wish him a happy birthday, shall we? The ageless wonder, who missed being Born on the Fourth of July by one day, is 51.

From Risky Business to A Few Good Men, the Mission: Impossible series, Tropic Thunder and this year's Oblivion, he's among the biggest stars ever.
