Obama Divorce Story: New Book Claims Michelle Nearly Left Barack in 2000
The controversial new biography of President Barack Obama claims that his wife, Michelle Obama, planned to leave the future president in 2000.
Is the divorce story real? Is anything in the book?
The unauthorized biography, which Klein claims is based on nearly 200 interviews, has been dismissed by presidential spokesperson Eric Schultz.
"Ed Klein has a proven history of reckless fabrication in order to sell books," he said. "Nobody in their right mind would believe the nonsense in this one."
Nevertheless, the Obama divorce story is the latest revelation in the book - which also discusses his ex Genevieve Cook - to generate major buzz.
In The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, out this week, Klein claims the divorce nearly happened eight years into the Obamas' marriage.
After Obama failed to listen to his wife's warnings in challenging Bobby Rush for his U.S. House seat in 2000 and got creamed, their relationship cooled.
“During the dark days that followed his defeat, he turned to Michelle for comfort. But she was in no mood for sympathy," Klein reportedly writes.

Michelle Obama Fashion Watch: First Lady Shines at White House Correspondents' Dinner
President Barack Obama joked at the White House Correspondents' dinner this weekend that an alarming percentage of poll respondents prefer his better half.
Self-deprecation aside, First Lady Michelle Obama more than holds her own, and not just when it comes to besting Ellen at pushups or being a fashion icon.
For Saturday's Hollywood-meets-Washington bash, President Obama's wife, 48, looked regal yet flirty in a strapless paisley organza gown by Naemm Khan:
The mother of two accentuated the dress by wearing her hair in loose, tousled waves, accessorized with gold hoop earrings. As always, the end result was stunning.
Mrs. Obama cracked up sitting next to the night's host Jimmy Kimmel, who roasted the President and scores of other A-list attendees during a 25-minute speech.
The night's guests included George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Anna Paquin, Steven Spielberg, Tony Romo, Candice Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Kate Hudson, Rick Santorum and Lindsay Lohan.

Michelle Obama Prom Dress: Revealed on Ellen!
During a speaking engagement to mark the one-year anniversary of her Joining Forces initiative, which helps honor and support America's military families, Michelle Obama brought in a special guest live via satellite:

In the second half of their talk, Ellen spoke with military families, and then delighted the audience by unveiling a photo of Michelle's senior prom dress ...
"That split was a little high," Obama said, laughing. "I don't know if I'd let my kids go out with a split that high, so let's not show this to Malia and Sasha."

Michelle Obama to Present Taylor Swift with Special Kids' Choice Award
She's won Grammy Awards and Country Music Awards. Seen albums go platinum. And double platinum. And triple platinum.
But Taylor Swift will receive an honor this Saturday night that not even she has enjoyed to this point in her career: recognition from the First Lady.
Michelle Obama will present Swift with Big Help Award at the Kids' Choice Awards this weekend, during a ceremony that airs at 8 p.m. on March 31 on Nickelodeon.
Obama - who received the trophy herself in 2010 - will praise Swift for her incredible charity work, including time dedicated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the St. Jude Medical Center and Habitat for Humanity.
If it were up to us, Taylor would also receive an honor just for this Academy of Country Music Awards-themed video with her cat. It's adorable!

Not particularly newsworthy, we realize ... but CUTE worthy!
"He is my son," the First Lady told David Letterman earlier this week about the adorable Portuguese Water Dog's role in her life. "I have two girls – and a boy."
Michelle Obama has always said that she considers herself the Mom-in-Chief, and in true mom form, she had nothing but praise for her furry "kid."
"Bo is wonderful. He is the smartest dog on the planet."
When Dave expressed doubts about Portuguese water dogs and their allegedly perfect behavior, the First Lady assured him that Bo has nothing but positive qualities.
"He's a very sweet dog. I'm not being biased. He's very well-mannered, he's very even-tempered ... He has a very busy schedule, appearances."
"I'm thinking about getting him an agent."
Michelle Obama to David Letterman: Who Are You, Oprah?
In a visit to The Late Show with David Letterman Monday, First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama discussed her relationship with her own parents.
An emotional Michelle, who considers herself the mother of Sasha and Malia above everything else, said her parents instilled in her the values she passes on.
They provided "absolute, complete, unconditional love ... the notion that kids really don't need anything but to know that their parents adore them."
She said she and the president have passed that trait onto their children: "Don't make me cry: This isn't Oprah!” she said. “It's supposed to be Letterman!"
Michelle Obama also discussed her recent incognito trip to Target, which was figured out when a woman asked her to help reach something on a high shelf.
The 48-year-old, who stands 5'10", said after she obliged, the grateful woman joked with her, "You didn't have to make it look so easy!"
"That was my interaction, and it felt so good!" she said.
