Back in October, Teen Mom: OG fans were abuzz with the news that Farrah Abraham had been fired from the show that made her famous.
Now, it appears that wasn't the case, though frankly, it's still hard to tell what exactly happened, as MTV execs have been mostly silent on the issue, and Farrah's word-salad diatribes have only left us more confused.
So Farrah will likely be returning for at least one more season of TM:OG--but she won't be joined by her daughter, Sophia.
It's an unusual decision, and one that's left many fans wondering if Farrah has something to hide...
Like Mother, Like Daughter
Farrah's parenting decisions have long been a source of controversy amongst Teen Mom: OG fans. Many have gone so far as to declare the Farrah an unfit mother.
Farrah has made it clear that she wants Sophia to become a household name in her own right. In what may have been the most appalling comment in her long history of appalling comments, Farrah once said she hopes the 8-year-old will follow in her footsteps and one day make a sex tape of her own.
A Surprising Decision
Clearly, the elder Abraham has big plans for Sophia, so many fans were shocked when Farrah announced her decision to remove her daughter from the show that made them both famous. But it seems Ms. Abraham has her mind made up...
Farrah's decision to allow Sophia to join Snapchat also appears to have been motivated by a desire to raise the girl's public profile. Thankfully, that experiment was short-lived.
No More Sophia
“I will say Sophia is not going to continue to be on Teen Mom,” Farrah recently told In Touch Weekly.
The reason for Farrah's decision was every bit as surprising as the decision itself. It seems Ms. Abraham believes the show encourages immoral and promiscuous behavior in young people...
No More Bad Examples!
"Sophia is not going to continue to talk about sex and unplanned pregnancies and all that stuff — so she’ll go on to do something better," Farrah added.
An Unexpected Complaint
It's not the criticism that most people expected from Farrah--who, let's not forget--has spoken openly about hopes that her daughter will one day star in a bestselling sex tape.
So What's REALLY Going On Here?
As many fans have pointed out, it seems unlikely that Farrah is actually worried about her daughter being corrupted by the show's treatment of sexuality and other mature topics. After all, Sophia will remain in the same evironment she's grown up in; she just won't be on camera anymore.
In all likelihood, this is simply Farrah's way of sticking it to show's producers, with whom she's been feuding for years.
Easier Than Quitting
Farrah has threatened to quit TM:OG on several occasions, but doing so would mean the loss of her most lucrative revenue stream, and--in all likelihood--the start of a slow fade into obscurity. So it seems she's decided it's easier simply to use her daughter as a pawn.
So what "better things" will Sophia be moving on to? Well, like her mother, the grade-schooler always has a number of business ventures lined up.
"Hopefully she’ll be doing makeup brands or clothing,” Farrah said of Sophia. “She’s already in fashion so that’s more her thing and her life.”
A Model Daughter
There's been no shortage of controversy surrounding Farrah's decision to involve her daughter in the world of child modeling. Farrah is unperturbed by the criticism, of course, and has stated that she plans on continuing to assist her daughter in pursuing that career path.
The Youngest Fashion Mogul
Sophia has also opened a store that specializes in high-end fashion for children. It's enough to make you wonder when she has time for school...
Stay In "School"
As it turns out, Sophia doesn't actually attend classes anymore, as traditional school was interfering with her work schedule. Farrah says that Sophia currently takes classes online.
What Do Those Around Her Think?
Sadly, Farrah has managed to surround herself with a cadre of yes-men who support her every decision, regardless of how damaging it might be to her daughter.
"A Great Mom"
“Honestly I think Farrah is a great mom and is protecting her daughter Sophia which is what any parent would do,” Farrah's father, Michael Abraham, recently told The Ashley's Reality Roundup. Of course, there are many who would disagree with that assessment...
Fans have been vocal in their criticism of Farrah's behavior since her time on 16 and Pregnant. In fact, it seems there's no figure more hated figure in the entire Teen Mom franchise, which is really saying something, as Jenelle Evans isn't exactly a mom of the year candidate, either. Sadly, for as much fun as it is to laugh at Farrah's absurdity, the damage to her daughter's psyche may well prove permanent.
