Kate Middleton has apparently been instructed by Her Royal Majesty herself, Queen Elizabeth II, to wear longer skirts. Yes, this is a real thing that happened.

Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl reports in the Mail on Sunday (via Vanity Fair) that the Queen has issued some directives as to how Kate should dress.

This applies to when she tours Australia in April, not on a daily basis or anything ... but still, expect longer skirts in April's Kate Middleton photos.

As per the Queen's request, the hemlines will be longer, the jewelry will be bolder, and there will be more tiaras than you can count. Sounds awesome?

In order to execute this “subtle but significant regal makeover,” as the Mail calls it, the Queen tasked her personal dresser, Angela Kelly, with preparing Kate.

The overhaul will see Kate wearing couture daytime dresses with “lower hemlines” than she typically goes for, as well as tiaras and “statement jewelry.”

Kate Middleton and Prince William wearing J. Crew clothes? Here's your visual, in honor of the retailer's London expansion and courtesy of Bloomberg Businessweek.

Kate Middleton, Prince William Cover

Prince William and Kate Middleton aren't actually "wearing" the brand's clothing, of course, but a mockup was created imagining just that scenario.

Kinda corny and a shameless attempt to sell magazines and build web buzz? You bet. But it worked, and it's hard to blame Bloomberg in a sense.

It's J. Crew! And Kate Middleton! How can you go wrong?

After all, this is what Michelle Obama, her girls and millions of others swear by, and we gotta say, Kate looks great in one of America's signature aesthetics.

Also, there's this GIF of the cover, which is awesome ...

How is it possible that Kate Middleton is always so polished and poised, even when the wind is threatening to expose her backside to the world?

While attending a charity engagement in Canary Wharf, Middleton stopped to speak to St. Edmunds School student Tierney Potter, who had brought the Duchess of Cambridge flowers. When the wind caught Middleton's navy Orla Kiely skirt, she held it in place without missing a beat.

Potter "was nervous but excited" to meet Middleton. "The Duchess said she wanted to say hello to the rest of the class, so I took her inside."

Kate Middleton's post-baby body is thinner than ever, as you can clearly see in this photo taken Thursday, which is London Poppy Day. What is her secret?!

With Prince William at her side, the Duchess greeted staff at volunteers at Kensington Palace in London in a long red coat that was belted at the waist.

The outfit emphasized her svelte, slim frame, which is obviously back to its pre-baby shape less than four months after she gave birth to Prince George:

For the event, they rode a 1960s-era Routemaster bus, chatting with actress Barbara Windsor and folks from the Royal British Legion Poppy Day Appeal.

We have no idea what that means, but man, Kate Middleton is pretty!

The royal couple's social calendar is filling up fast. They will host a wonderland gala (featuring Taylor Swift!) for homeless charity Centrepoint November 26.

Oh, to be Kate Middleton, who makes looking amazing look so easy!

The Duchess of Cambridge attended the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Benefit Gala, her second formal event since Prince George's birth, just one day after the Royal Baby's christening

She showed off a rocking post-baby body in her navy blue Jenny Packham gown and proved, once again, that she has impeccable taste in fashion. Packham also designed the gold sequined dress Kate Middleton wore in September to her first formal appearance after giving birth.

The Duchess of Cambridge opted for minimal jewelry and soft curls to accent the floor-length, ink blue frock. Her skin was positively glowing.

The small, intimate royal christening of Prince George was the big story, but what his mom Kate Middleton wore was, as always, a major subplot Wednesday.

For the occasion, the Duchess of Cambridge again chose Alexander McQueen.

In a cream-colored short two-piece with a cascading ruffle-placket, she wore an adaptation of a coat dress seen in Spring / Summer 2012 McQueen collections.

Kate Middleton seemed to have coordinated the color perfectly with the family.

Camilla and Pippa Middleton were also in pale colors, while Carole Middleton, godmother Zara Phillips, and Queen Elizabeth II wore varying shades of blue.

Prince George's christening took place today at St. James Palace in London, with parents Kate Middleton and Prince William beaming proudly from ear to ear.

As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge pulled up in a dark blue sedan and made their way to the courtyard, a tiny cry could be heard from the guest of honor.

William held his baby boy, who was wearing the traditional lace-and-silk baptismal robe, first fashioned for Queen Victoria's son, the future King Edward VII, in 1841.

Kate Middleton wore a cream-colored skirt suit and matching fascinator by Alexander McQueen, whose creative director, Sarah Burton, also designed her wedding dress.

She also donned a matching hat by Jane Taylor and had her long hair brushed to the side for the special event, which was small by royal standards.

Kate Middleton played some volleyball this morning in her third formal public appearance since giving birth at an East London event for the charity SportsAid.

The athletic Duchess is a patron for the organization, and she showed her affinity for sports again today in a Breton-style top, skinny jeans and five inch wedges.

At one point, Kate Middleton jumped and spiked, baring her midriff as she leapt for the ball, no doubt causing London’s tabloid editors to have heart palpitations.

Bump, set, spoke ... in sales!

Middleton's inadvertent stomach reveal showed it to be stunningly flat, with nary a sign that she was very pregnant less than three months ago.

Some women just make it look so easy.

Kate Middleton was at Prince William's side for the inaugural Tusk Conservation Awards at the Royal Society in London Thursday night, and she looked amazing.

What else is new, right?

Arriving with a tuxedo-clad William at 7:10 p.m., Kate Middleton wore a drop-waist, floor-length, pale gold sequin gown by designer favorite Jenny Packham.

Although similar to an existing design, Kate's dress was custom-made, and costs approximately $6,300 ... no need to crash Jenny's website this time.

William, who is leaving the British military to focus on charity work, presented two awards for outstanding achievement in the field of African conservation.

The fuchsia Seraphine Maternity dress worn by Kate Middleton in the official Prince George photos released earlier this week sold out in under two hours.

Kate Middleton Maternity Dress

It turns out Kate Middleton fashion is as popular as Royal Baby photos, which isn't a huge surprise, as the Duchess has often had this effect on style.

At a modest $79, the short-sleeve Jolene dress is both accessible and appealing to moms, thanks to a flattering silhouette and gorgeous feminine color.

The pretty design accentuates the positive and discreetly minimizes Kate Middleton post-baby body flaws, all wrapped up in one fun little frock.
