In the fantasies of many females, Taylor Lautner is their boy toy.

On the big screen, similarly, he'll soon portray a character based on a toy.

The Twilight Saga cutie has signed on to anchor Stretch Armstrong, a movie based on an action figure of the same name.

As written by The Hollywood Reporter, this family friendly action film will tell the story of “an uptight spy who stumbles across a stretching formula, which he takes and must now adjust to in everyday life and when fighting crime."

The movie, which will be released by Universal Pictures, will be filmed with 3-D technology.

"In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office," said studio cochair Donna Langley. "He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power. We couldn't be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch."

Look for Stretch Armstrong to hit theaters in 2012. This summer, of course, you can see Lautner reprise the role of Jacob in Eclipse.

Now we know why Alex Meraz is a member of the Wolfpack in New Moon: the guy isn't afraid to bare his fangs.

In August of 2009, the actor threw down the shirtless gauntlet to Taylor Lautner, challenging his status at the hottest hunk in the Twilight Saga.

Now, Meraz has stirred up controversy by playing the role of movie critic: last night, he Tweeted his disdain for the upcoming film Valentine's Day, which stars Lautner, Taylor Swfit, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel, Julia Roberts and other A-listers.

"Sorry Taylor but the movie 'valentines day" looks lame and desperate it cries out 'look we have all the biggest starz in 1movie pleez watch!'

Realizing that he may have jeopardized his future big screen career, and having not actually seen the movie, Meraz backtracked just an hour later. He wrote:

"P.S. it has nothing to do with the talented actors in the movie I just don't like the producer & Directors 'get rich quick skeem' nuff said."

Well, Alex, we don't like your kindergarten-level of spelling, but you don't see us publicly calling you out on that, do you?

When Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner ended their brief relationship, most sources agreed the basis for this break up was basic:

For the last couple weeks, The Hollywood Gossip has looked back at 2009 by naming the finalists for our prestigious, 3rd Annual Celebrity of the Year award.

In this section, we've been paying tribute to the unique stars that made the past 12 months so memorable for gossip followers across the nation and globe.

Now, following last edition's selection of Miley Cyrus in the #2 spot, we've finally reached the top. Drumroll please...

For 2009, THG's Celebrity of the Year is... the New Moon cast!

Critics might say we're copping out by choosing more than one star for this honor, but come on. Everyone involved with the Twilight Saga deserves recognition for turning a book series into the most popular, buzzed-about film franchise in years.

This doesn't always happen. Remember The Golden Compass? Probably not. Starring Nicole Kidman, it was meant as the first installment in a trilogy based on Philip Pullman's His Dark Material novels. A second movie was never even made.

So, what enabled New Moon to gross over $660 million worldwide? A cast of young, fresh, gorgeous, talented and seemingly grounded individuals. Below, we note each actor's 2009 accomplishments:

Robert Pattinson: Might as well start at the top. The British actor has grown into a global phenomenon. He can't walk away from a film set without being followed by countless paparazzi members, his every interaction with women is chronicled like it's a Presidential summit and he was named one of People's 50 Most Beautiful People of 2009.

Over the course of a few months, Pattinson covered Entertainment Weekly, Harper's Bazaar, OK! Weekly, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone. He's also dating...

Kristen Stewart: She broods, therefore she is. While Stewart had already appeared in a critically-acclaimed movie (Into the Wild) prior to landing the role of Bella Swan, she took on a cult following after her performance in New Moon. Millions of women around the world both love her and hate her for bagging Pattinson, but one thing is clear: they can't take their eyes off her.

Taylor Lautner: He dated Taylor Swift. He rarely wore a shirt. He was actually able to recruit girls away from Team Edward for Team Jacob, based on his bulked-up role in New Moon. Lautner has already signed on for two new movies and appears to have a huge career ahead of him.

Ashley Greene: The actress almost broke the Internet when naked photos of her were leaked online.

Nikki Reed: Probably the least known main star of the franchise. But she's dating Paris Latsis, Paris Hilton's ex, and has been involved in numerous THG Fashion Face-Offs.

Taylor Swift had an incredible 2009. But the year will end on a down note for the singer, or at least for fans of her love life.

Sources confirm that Swift has put the brakes on her relationship with Taylor Lautner, as an insider tells Us Weekly "he liked her more than she liked him."

We've been there, T. Laut. We came to the same realization a few years ago about Jennifer Love Hewitt.

While neither Taylor ever went on record with an official acknowledgment of this relationship, both sides hosted Saturday Night Live over the past couple months and referenced the other in a cute manner. They were also spotted frequently together.

However, "it wasn't really developing into anything, and wasn't going to, so they decided they were better as friends," a source said. "There was no chemistry, and it felt contrived."

This insider claims the relationship pretty much ended when Lautner flew to Nashville for Swift's birthday party on December 13. It was an example of the lengths he often went to for the singer, yet she "didn't travel much to see him," the friend says.

While Swift is still smarting from her 2008 break-up with Joe Jonas, who dumped her in an infamous 27-second phone call, the future looks somewhat bright for these Taylors.

"They plan to stay friends," says the acquaintance.

The movie Valentine's Day looks like an adorable romantic comedy.

Focusing on "a day in the life of love," Valentine's Day also stars Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift, as the rumored couple got close on set and has reportedly taken its on-screen romance away from the cameras.

Neither side has officially confirmed the relationship, but Lautner referenced it during his funny Saturday Night Live monologue.

We all know how well his personal life is going. (Hello there, Taylor Swift!)

But Taylor Lautner is making strides in his professional life, as well. He's shaping a world beyond the Twilight Saga for himself.

First, the handsome actor has signed on for Cancun. In the movie, he'll portray a college student that 1. Gets invited by a girl to join her and her friends for spring break in Mexico; 2. Takes off his shirt a lot!

However, the vacation goes awry when his friends are kidnapped by a drug cartel. Lautner will film this role prior to taking on Max Steel.

Meanwhile, Lautner is also reportedly planning for a life outside of the big screen.

Sources tell The National Enquirer that the actor has taken classes to be a fitness instructor, as "his self-esteem shot through the roof when he bulked up for New Moon and he wants other people to experience that feeling."

Taylor might open a few workout centers in future, but not any time soon. Sounds like he'll be busy with a burgeoning movie career for a very long time to come. Hooray!
