To state the obvious, Kelly Dodd is not too popular with The Real Housewives of Orange County fans right now.
At least, a majority of them are siding with her co-star and rival Shannon Beador ... and Gina Kirschenheiter.
After Kelly terrorized her fellow Houseiwves and sent one of them to urgent care, it's not hard to understand why.
That's not all that Kelly's done, even just in recent episodes. Dodd has been on something of a rampage of late.
Kelly was confronted about these things this week by Bravo's own Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live.
Does she have any regrets about her actions? The answer may surprise you. It certainly took Andy off guard.
The long and short of it? Kelly isn't sorry ... and confesses that she wishes that she'd struck her castmates harder.
Girl, no. Just no.
Let's get into it:
Kelly Dodd has been at the center of what we'll delicately call a "firestorm" of controversy after viewers saw The Real Housewives of Orange County cast member strike not only Shannon, but Gina in recent episodes. Some lines should not be crossed, folks, and most fans are Team Shannon.
Now, she's on the defensive
Dodd claims she didn't whack Beador that hard with a mallet, and obviously didn't want to give the woman a concussion, but the fact of the matter is that you don't have to hit someone hard for it to be assault, or to injure them.
Kelly went on WWHL
Andy Cohen recapped everything that went down that has her in hot water with Real Housewives of Orange County fans, starting with Shannon's complaints of head pain following getting clocked in the dome by Dodd.
Shannon went to urgent care
It may not have looked like a savage head shot at the time, but she felt its impact; Beador had a headache and complained of blurry vision in one eye. An abundance of caution is always a good idea when we're talking about head injuries.
Kelly disagreed ... hard
As you can tell from her expletive-fueled screeching at Tamra Judge over the phone, Kelly felt that too big a deal was being made about this and that Tamra should not have accompanied Shannon. To the HOSPITAL.
Kelly felt like Shannon was being a drama queen
In the mind of Kelly Dodd, Tamra should not have humored her friend. Tamra herself has admitted that Shannon does sometimes overreact.
Kelly spoke her mind
This, of course, took place over speakerphone, where Shannon could hear every word that Kelly said to Tamra. This is reality TV, after all.
Kelly didn't believe Shannon
Shannon reported having a mild concussion following the incident, but Kelly yelled that it must be a lie, because Shannon went on drinking that night. Notably, doctors do not recommend any alcohol use after any manner of brain injury.
Tamra tried to bring peace
We respect that she tried to play the peacemaker, despite the obvious thought in the back of our minds that if Tamra Judge is the voice of reason in your group, you might need to reconsider whatever is happening with you.
And it ... worked?
Tamra at least got Kelly and Shannon to hug it out. But reaching a temporary peace treaty is not the same as fixing everyone's problems, and it's clear that both sides haven't fully moved on.
Because Kelly hadn't changed her mind
Dodd explained to the camera that she sees Shannon Beador as a manipulator and she wants everyone to know. Not exactly burying the hatchet.
SO she went on WWHL
Kelly was seated alongside her fellow guest on Watch What Happens Live, Meghan McCain. We guess that it was "most controversial women on a show about and starring controversial women" night over at Bravo. Anyway ...
Does she admit that she was out of control?
Kelly says that she was not out of control, as her co-stars have alleged, and that actually the other ladies were out of control because of scheming and manipulations directed at her. She also says that her "hitting [Shannon] on the head" was misrepresented.
And then she says it
"I wish I would have hit it harder," Kelly blurts out, possibly referring to both Shannon and Gina, but we're guessing just referring to Shannon. Wow.
Andy doesn't love that
Cohen, a man who's been around long enough to have heard and seen pretty much everything, physically recoiled from the impulsive statement, and we know how he feels. You want to hear someone express remorse, not escalation.
Speaking of regrets ...
Andy then prepares to read off 12 instances from Kelly Dodd's relatively recent history and ask if she regrets those actions. You can probably guess how this was received.
Does Kelly regret sending Vicki the pig emoji?
No, she does not. Oh, Kelly, that is so unkind and a little beneath you.
How about calling Vicki a sasquatch?
Yes, Vicki wore a fur coat, which is what prompted the joke. No, it's not kind to refer to her looking like a sasquatch. But Kelly has no regrets. (Pro tip: Next time, just use Cruella de Vil.)
How about telling the other ladies to f--k off?
This was after the train rumor - that guy after guy had plowed Kelly in rapid succession. So no, Kelly does not regret it. Also, that didn't happen. And in a rare instance of me agreeing with the Princess of Arizona, Meghan pipes up that she is also totally against slut-shaming, so even if the rumor about Kelly (who has never even had a threesome, can you imagine?) were true, it would be a garbage thing to tease her about.
Does she regret giving Dr. Brian permission to move in below her?
She really said that it was fine for her boyfriend, Dr. Brian Reagan, to move into the apartment directly beneath hers. And yes, she regrets that a lot now. Her first regret of the night!
Does she regret her game of whack-a-mole with Shannon and Gina?
No, Kelly says. She doesn't regret bonking either of them on the head. Oh, Kelly. Just take one of the many opportunities being handed to you here.
How about not taking the ceremony seriously?
Even before the head-bonk, Shannon was annoyed with Kelly for not taking the spiritual rituals - the ceremony they were taking part in - seriously. Then Kelly went and expressed that she wanted her business to do well instead of discussing personal growth. Kelly has no regrets and cheerfully says so - because her product is now in 200 Target stores. Okay, that's fair.
Does she regret yelling at Tamra for going to urgent care with Shannon?
That gets a very enthusiastic "NOPE" from Kelly, who clearly feels like Shannon was in hysterics and that Tamra should not have "played along."
How about sharing details of her sex life with Dr. Brian?
"Yes!" Kelly confesses. That's the second regret of the night, and both have to do with Dr. Brian. Interesting.
Does she regret being open with Jolie?
Kelly was very direct with her daughter about the details of her drama with Vicki. Kelly does NOT regret that, which sounds like the right call. Jolie is old enough to hear her mom dispell some rumors.
Does she regret telling Emily that she "messed up?"
Emily Simpson was already deeply stressed about her Vegas burlesque show, especially since it was for her 10 year anniversary and her husband didn't show (but her in-laws did!). Kelly does regret unintentionally kicking a friend while she's down. That's the right call.
That's three regrets!
As Andy points out, that's three out of twelve. A nice 25% clip. He admits that when they came up with the questions, they expected Kelly to regret none of them. Is that personal growth? Or maybe it's just sympathy for a friend who's having a tough time and a lot of disappointment about an ex.
Kelly looks absolutely beautiful in it, but that doesn't mean that viewers are going to like what she has to say. But hey, at least she's not Meghan McCain.
