It’s been just over a month since Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking engagement at a Utah college.
The slain political commentator would have celebrated his 32nd birthday today.
But while the occasion is certainly a painful one for Kirk’s loved ones, his family may have cause for celebration, as multiple media outlets are reporting that President Donald Trump will posthumously award Kirk the Medal of Freedom today.

Trump announced his intention to award the Medal of Freedom back on September 11, just one day after Kirk was assassinated.
The White House has not confirmed that the ceremony will take place today, but insiders tell ABC News that arrangements have been made, and the medal will be presented this afternoon.
Charlie’s widow, Erika Kirk, is expected to accept the medal on his behalf.
Today has already been marked as a “National Day of Remembrance” for Kirk.

Trump announced on Friday that he intended to return from overseas for the occasion, though he did not go into specifics about what today’s memorial might entail.
In comments to the press, Trump referred to Kirk as “a friend of mine, a friend of all of us.”
“It’s the greatest honor,” the president added, seemingly indicating a plan to award the Medal of Freedom.
“And Erika, his beautiful wife, is going to be here, and a lot of people are gonna be here.”

Trump previously honored Kirk at a memorial service at Arizona’s State Farm Stadium, which was attended by more than 80,000 people.
“I know I speak for everyone here today when I say that none of us will ever forget Charlie Kirk, and neither now will history,” Trump said at the time.
“Because while Charlie has been reunited with his creator in heaven, his voice on earth will let go through the generations, and his name will live forever in the eternal chronicle of America’s greatest patriots.”
At that same service, Erika Kirk famously announced that she had forgiven Charlie’s killer. It’s unclear if she intends to speak at his Medal of Freedom ceremony.
Erika has since been named the CEO of Turning Point USA, the organization founded by her late husband.
We will have updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
