We probably don't need to tell you that Hollywood and Buckingham Palace don't have an awful lot in common.
One is the last bastion of an outdated institution -- a place where people born into fabulous wealth and privilege spend their days basking in the adulation of the peasant classes.
And the other is home to Queen Elizabeth II.
Schtick aside, when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, there were concerns that the ensuing culture clash would lead to widespread pearl-clutching among his stodgier relatives.
And sadly, that has been the case at times.
For example, take Meghan's failure to curtsy in the appropriate fashion.
Insiders say little faux pas like that eventually snowballed and created some major conflicts, such as the (allegedly) ongoing feud between Meghan and Kate Middleton.
And if it's that easy to make waves among the Windsors, you can bet Meg's in-laws are less than thrilled about the rumors that she and Harry are buying up some coastal property far from the bosom of Brittania.
According to a new report from Life & Style, Meghan and Harry are “talking about buying property nearby, in Malibu,” and plan to “view houses during their trip" to the US later this year.
“[Meghan] knows her home is in the U.K. now, but she does miss California,” an insider tells the tabloid.
“With its year-round, almost perfect climate and beaches, both she and Harry think Malibu is the ideal location for a base in the States.”
The source on this might sound like they're reading from a Malibu tourism site, but it makes sense that Meg would be desirous of a pied-a-terre in her picturesque old stomping grounds.
“There are two properties they’re eyeing,” the informant adds.
“One near the members-only Soho House Malibu and one in a more remote area near Point Dume.”
Yes, Soho House -- the very same douchey social club where one might spot Miley Cyrus having sex with Kaitlynn Carter in a bathroom stall on a random Tuesday night.
Of course, the couple would be expected to justify this massive expenditure, and it appears they've already prepared a proposal for the Queen's perusal:
“Meghan and Harry could visit, do some global outreach work from L.A. and hobnob with politicians and celebrities there. It would be beneficial for royal business,” says the insider.
“Meghan has changed everything,” the source adds.
“A home in Malibu will be a royal first — that’s for sure!”
And if there's one thing the royal family loves, it's change!
Good luck, you crazy kids!
