Last April, it leaked from the set of The Real Housewives of Orange County that there was a new rumor floating around.
The rumor, then attributed to Tamra Judge, claimed that Kelly Dodd had pushed her mom down the stairs.
The result was a renewal of the intense feuding that had temporarily abated after Kelly and Vicki had hugged it out.
Now, we see the context of how that rumor was blurted out on camera.
And that's not all that the Housewives had to say about Kelly. Did she really fracture some woman's hand?
It's Kelly vs Vicki ... again!
The Real Housewives of Orange County reignited a classic feud that started with Kelly skipping Vicki's party and ended with Vicki spreading yet another rumor about Kelly. What a mess.
Let's start at the beginning
Much of the episode may have been about Kelly Dodd vs The Tres Amigas after their uneasy truce, but Gina's increasing frustrations were the B-story, and the episode starts with her.
She was allegedly spotted making out with Matt
Matt, her ex husband, from whom she was divorcing. They were seen locking lips at a bar. We get it, he's hot, and this was filmed in April, so it was a couple of months before the harrowing night on which he was arrested after allegedly striking, throwing, dragging, and threatening Gina in her home. They were on much better terms in April, despite the divorce.
Obviously, the ladies confronted her about it
They were picking out costumes for Vicki's over-the-top tea party, and Tamra straight-up asked the question about the alleged makeout. "Did you touch his wiener?" Gina admitted that she had, a little. Oh, Gina. She also picked out a Mad Hatter costume, which may have been a little on the nose, because hooking up with your ex is not always a sane choice.
Gina had other family concerns
We also saw her take Sienna to an occupational therapist to help with sensory issues that were impacting fine motor skills. Gina confessed to feeling guilty that the divorce was distracting her from immediately noticing when a child is struggling. That's a fair concern, though also Gina has three kids, and some parents just assume that their kids are fine for YEARS because having three kids is overwhelming. Gina could be doing way worse.
So, here's where Kelly comes into play
Tamra was getting her glow-up for the party, and she contacted Kelly to see how she's feeling about it. Kelly's feelings are not positive. She doesn't want to celebrate Vicki. Making peace is, after all, not the same thing as cheering someone. She also said that she was en route to Los Angeles.
Here's where Kelly says her fateful line
"You know what, I'm sorry, but I'm not celebrating her birthday. There is no way," she admits. "I mean, the only celebration I'm doing for her is going to her funeral. That's the only celebration I'd be doing."
Tamra's begging that she just grin and bear it does no good
"I can forgive Vicki, I can try to move forward with Vicki," Kelly says. "Does it mean I have to buy her a birthday gift and be there and be her best friend? Hell, no!"
Tamra did NOT convey the full message
When Tamra related the news to the other Tres Amigas, Tamra watered all of that down to not being "ready to celebrate Vicki," which is a lot gentler than the funeral remark.
Back to Gina
Braunwyn was starting to really get on her nerves, for whatever reason. Braunwyn getting tea with a milk alternative isn't especially high maintenance, but clearly the editors want viewers to think so since they included that moment in the gradual build up of Gina's frustrations.
Gina also expresses guilt
She admits that she had a date with Dr. Hottie despite having just hooked up with Matt, which is admittedly a little disastrous. Braunwyn replied: "Good for you for making bad choices because it just makes me feel less alone." Instead of taking it as solidarity or laughing at herself, it really annoyed her.
This is when Tamra shares Kelly Rumor #1
Hanging out with the Tres Amigas, you can tell that Tamra's earlier conversation with Kelly must have impacted her mood, because she decides to announce that she heard that Kelly was in a "bar fight."
So first, Tamra's version
Tamra says that Kelly got into a fight with Dr. Brian and stormed off, only to return to find Dr. Brian beside another woman, who had her arm around him. Kelly allegedly removed the woman's arm from his body, prompting the woman to claim that her hand had been fractured as a result. So ... not anything as exciting as what people pictured with "bar fight," if it happened at all.
The result was a mess
Shannon later blurted out "Tamra just told us a story that [Kelly] got in a bar fight this weekend." Naturally, the ladies exchanged versions of what they believed had happened. Braunwyn felt a little miffed because she felt that, as the Housewife closest with Kelly, she surely had the most authentic version. Gina continued to be increasingly annoyed with Braunwyn.
Tamra didn't like the one-sided convo
"I'm not completely comfortable with the conversation," Tamra then semi-privately confessed to Shannon. "I'm not gonna sit there while everybody's bashing Kelly."
"If I wanted to be a bitch to Kelly," Tamra continued. "I would just say to Vicki, 'She wanted to celebrate your death. She doesn't wanna be here. That's what Kelly told me today.'" Oh that's a hell of a line.
They decided to FaceTime Kelly
Kelly claimed to have strep throat, which is different from her story about heading to Los Angeles. Tamra shouted into the phone: "I'm just saying I feel like you should be here because there's a lot of talk about you right now at the table, and I didn't feel comfortable with it, so I walked away." She conveniently neglected to mention that she was the one who had blurted out the bar fight rumor to begin with.
Back to Gina and Braunwyn
Braunwyn asked for a different sandwich for her nut allergy -- folks, those can be very serious. She also asked for a glass for her sparkling water. Gina didn't care for either of those, which tells us that Gina was just in a bad mood and had opted to direct her negative attention at Braunwyn.
Gina snapped at her
When Braunwyn, an advocate for public schools (which is great!) asked if Gina also sent her kids to public schools, Gina went off -- more based upon her perceived tone than her words. "I can't, Braunwyn," Gina exclaimed. "I can't. It's just like, 'Public school! Public school! They're gonna be great. Can I have a glass so I don't have to drink out of a bottle?' You're kind of a snob in like not the funniest way to me."
Braunwyn started to cry
"I'm not gonna do it! I'm not gonna do the crying," Gina said, continuing to flip out. "It has nothing to do with public schools and private schools. I might hit the lottery tomorrow! I'm gonna send my kids to the best f--king bougie private school I can find! It's not about that." Honestly, this is a great moment for Braunwyn, because crying when someone is slightly rude to you is very relatable for a lot of people.
Braunwyn left in tears
Shannon chased after her to help smooth things over, explaining to her why Gina was in such a foul mood. The whole restaurant had been staring. Eventually, Braunwyn returned and Gina did apologize.
Vicki got covered in cake frosting
Afterwards, the Tres Amigas were headed home when Tamra decided to drop the bombshell about Kelly: "She was on her way to L.A. when I talked to her earlier when she said that she'd rather go to Vicki's funeral." Shannon was visibly irritated that Tamra had opted to bring this up to Vicki's face.
Vicki was upset
"Are you serious?" she asked. "Are you talking that she wants me dead? Who talks that way about somebody? Keep her f--king away from me. You keep her away from me." She even began to cry a little. "She's not welcome at my funeral."
Shannon knew whom to blame
"Somebody needs to teach her what's funny and what isn't," Shannon said to Vicki of Kelly. "I'm sorry that you just heard that. That's a hard f--king thing to hear. It's bad. It's bad." You can tell from her word that she's furious with Tamra for blurting it out.
This is when Vicki lets loose
"I have not talked about her looks, I have not talked about her family," Vicki notes furiously. "I have not talked that she pushed her mother down the stairs." Shannon was disappointed that Vicki brought it up on camera, while Tamra was intrigued. Goodness, Tamra is pushing a lot of drama buttons this episode.
This is something that leaked
Remember last April, when video leaked from the set of Tamra discussing the rumor? Well, that was this rumor.
Kelly shot it down
At the time, she said that Tamra is "a known liar" and should not be believed, as it was Tamra speaking about the rumor in the leak.
Kelly's mom was even ready to testify
"My mom would be happy to go on record and say I never pushed her down the stairs," Kelly announced during the spring. "She actually wants to sue her for this."
That explains why, despite us all seeing the make up after the Shannon-bonking incident, Kelly continues to be at odds with the Tres Amigas. Who did more damage here -- Kelly with her iniital statement, or Tamra by blabbing it?
