Have you heard the sad news?
Jenelle Evans and David Eason have separated. Again.
By our count, that makes it about 47,000 breakups for these two.
But this time ... it's for real. Or is it?
The Easons are bad at keeping secrets, but they're also pathological liars, so it can be tough to tell what's going on in their lives.
Moments ago, Jenelle announced that she has filed for divorce from David Eason.
However, some fans aren't buying it.
While it's not hard to believe that these two would call it quits during one of their notoriously heated arguments, some Teen Mom 2 viewers think they're faking the whole thing so that Jenelle can get her old job back with MTV.
It sounds ridiculous -- but believe it or not, the scheme might be just crazy enough to work.
Here's everything we know about the situation thus far:
A Long Time Coming
Jenelle Evans and David Eason appear to have called it quits. Moments ago, Evans broke the news to fans with a lengthy Instagram post.
"I've mostly kept off social media the last few days because I've been focused on making some big life decisions," Evans began.
"I've lived my life on camera since I was 17 years old," Evans continued. "And a lot of it hasn't been pretty. But it's been my life."
Thinking of the Children (For Once)
"Like anyone else, I want what's best for my kids, and I want to be happy," Jenelle wrote.
Evans goes on to say that being fired from Teen Mom 2 helped her reach her decision to ditch David:
A New Beginning?
“With time away from Teen Mom, I’ve started to look at my life differently and I know I need to make changes. I’m starting that now," she wrote.
And There It Is
“The kids and I have moved away from David," Jenelle stated on the second page of her informal announcement.
Well, In This Case, You Probably Should Have ...
"Nobody gets into a marriage expecting it to end but I know that’s what is best for me, and for my kids," she continued.
Dropping the Hammer
"Today I’ve filed papers to start that process," Evans wrote, presumably referring to divorce papers.
A Word of Gratitude
"I appreciate the support from everybody who has asked how I am," Jenelle added.
More to Come ...
"Me and the kids are doing great. We need some time to be together, but you’ll hear from us again soon,” she concluded.
A New Her
The announcement is surprisingly level-headed in tone. In fact, this is the most Jenelle has sounded in ... well, ever!
A Calculated Move
Of course, that's part of the reason that so many are convinced this all part of a PR move designed to help her rebuild her image and win her old job back.
And why would Jenelle think that dumping her husband might earn her a second chance with her former employers? Well, that's a good question with two possible answers ...
Justice For Nugget
As you may recall, Jenelle was fired after it was revealed that David beat, shot, and killed her French bulldog puppy, Nugget.
Jenelle wasn't axed BECAUSE David is an animal abuser, but her firing was directly tied to the incident.
Standing By Her Man
For one thing, Jenelle stuck by David's side after the slaughter and helped him to hide his crime from police.
Lies on Top of Lies
The Easons told the cops that the dog ran away, and little Nugget's body was never found. (It's best not to think about what David may have done to dispose of it.)
It wasn't until months later that David confessed to the killing in a TV interview.
It Gets Worse ...
On top of that, Nugget's death prompted a CPS investigation which led to Jenelle losing custody of her kids. It was around this time that she was axed from Teen Mom 2.
Possibly a Smart Move
So she might think that dumping David (or at least pretending to) would be enough to convince her old bosses to give her another chance.
Brining the Drama
Another possibility is that Jenelle and David believe the drama of a contentious divorce (and this one is sure to get ugly) will be too much for TM2 producers to resist.
Jenelle's Last Laugh
After all, the show's ratings have been steadily declining since Jenelle's last episode, and the primary complaint among fans is the lack of "realness" or authenticity.
And it doesn't get much more real than a bitter divorce and custody battle in the heart of rural North Carolina.
The fake divorce argument makes sense for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that Jenelle has fallen on very hard times in the months since she was canned from Teen Mom 2.
At first, Jenelle seemed to have several revenue options still available to her. But one-by-one, they all dried up.
She's No Mogul
Her long-gestating makeup line, JE Cosmetics, was an immediate bust, selling just 150 units in its first two weeks of operation.
The Hits Keep on Coming
On top of that, many customers filed complaints claiming that their products were contaminated.
For a while, Jenelle was making big bucks posting sponsored content on her social media pages, but she's vowed not to do that anymore, probably because the offers dried up due to her shoddy reputation.
The Real Deal
Of course, the most likely explanation here is that really did Jenelle decide to end her tumultuous 2-year marriage -- and she had plenty of good reasons for doing so.
It was just over a year ago that Evans called 911 on Eason alleging that he broke her collarbone during a drunken altercation at the couple's home.
And that certainly wasn't the only indication that David behaved abusively toward Jenelle. Check out this clip that Jenelle shot herself
Time to Run
Jenelle may have (rightly) feared that the abuse would get even worse now that there are no MTV camera crews roaming The Land
Letting It All Out
Also supporting the case that Jenelle and David really called it quits is the fact that Eason has been extra emotional on Facebook this week.
First, he tried to get on Jenelle's good side with this post from last Thursday.
That Was Quick
But by Friday, he had given up those efforts and had started attacking his estranged wife.
