Give Leah Messer points for honesty.
And, really, for simply being alive right now.
The veteran Teen Mom 2 star opened way up on the latets edition of the "Knockin' Doorz Down" podcast, shocking listeners with a number of her revelations and admissions.
“I actually tried heroin once," she told the hosts, explaining that she turned to this dangereous drug after a botched spinal tap in 2013 that led to an immeasureable amount of pain.
"My personal experience is I didn’t feel anything from it. I think it was divine intervention," Leah added of the heroin use.
"It was when you can’t find pain medication, there was the heroin. It’s a cheaper and an easier form. I was actually with my dad when I had done it."
Stunning and tragic at the same time.
The reality star has talked in the past about how her dad, Gary, struggled with substance abuse and how she had hoped to avoid the same fate.
But then the botched spinal tap happened... and she started to rely on pain pills... and then one addiction led to another... and:
"I didn’t feel dependent on the medication I was taking at the time until it was too late and I became suicidal."
It wasn't just the use of drugs that Messer admitteed to in this revealing interview, however.
She also made it clear that she had to lower herself to certain depths in order to obtain the drugs.
“I was buying it off the streets, I was doing very illegal activities. It was a spiral downhill from there," she said on the aforementioned podcast this past weekend, adding:
“I was taking ridiculous amounts of prescription medication. I remember it leading into smoking the pills, it led me to try heroin.”
Messer, a mother of three, released a memoir in May in which she also got brutally honest with fans.
“At first, the medications helped dull the pain in my body and my mind, but at some point, they stopped helping," she detailed in the book. "Now, I’m starting to think they might [have been] part of the problem."
Leah is mom to twins Ali and Aleeah, 10, with ex-husband Corey Simms; and Addie, 7, with former-spouse Jeremy Calvert.
She often found herself slurring her words on Teen Mom 2, back in the day while nodding off mid-sentence on the MTV program.
At one point, Leah lost custody of her twins in 2015.
She then entered a treatment facility after Teen Mom 2 producers viewed GoPro footage of her attempting to commit suicide by driving off a cliff.
These days, thankfully, Messer and Simms split custody of their girls and have seemingly clawed back to being on decent terms.
It's an impressive accomplishment and an impressive journey for someone who was once hooked on painkillers such as Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Tylenol 3.
We applaud Leah Messer for how far she has come.
