The blessed news was confirmed via the famous couple’s official Instagram page, with @SussexRoyal sharing the following announcement today:

We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.

More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.

Back when Kate Middleton gave birth to Prince Louis in April 2018, that Duchess posed with the newborn within hours outside of the hospital.

But Markle has chosen not to go this route.

The brand new mother has therefore not said anything in public about her son — but Prince Harry just released his very first statement about the latest Royal.

“Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning – a very healthy boy,” the Duke of Sussex told the press today, adding in further detail:

“Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. This has been the most amazing experience I could possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.

"But we are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everyone out there. It’s been amazing.

"So we just wanted to share this with everybody.”

Speaking himself directly to the camera, Harry concluded:

“I haven’t been in many births. This is definitely my first birth. It was amazing, absolutely incredible.

"As I said, I am so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I’m just over the moon."

The Prince and his Duchess got married in May of last year and announced they were expecting just a few months later.

There’s been non-stop chatter ever since about the gender (a boy!) and the name (still undecided and/or unknown), with Harry and Meghan remaining mostly silent on both fronts.

Expect to learn plenty more about everything and everyone involved in the coming days, however.

As for others close to Markle?

“The duchess’ mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage,” a statement released by the palace reads.

It adds: “Her Royal Highness and the baby are both doing well.”

We’re so very glad to hear this!

Markle and Harry moved out of London a few weeks ago.

There’s been talk that they may even move to Africa someday, but not until this little one is older and maybe not until they add to their immediate family.

That’s silly to talk about now, of course, while the world celebrates the birth of this Royal Baby.

And also while they wait to hear from Middleton and Prince William.

Will they also send their best wishes to Markle and Harry? Or will they snub their alleged rivals?
