More than anything else in the world, Josiah Duggar wishes he could have written a very different message to his wife this weekend.
He wishes that he and Lauren could have spent Mother's Day cradling and playing with their young child.
But God had a different plan for the couple, who suffered a miscarriage this past October and who is doing the best to pick up the pieces... together.
"To my dear Lauren... Happy 1st Mother’s Day!" wrote Josiah on Sunday as a caption to the photograph above, adding in emotional detail:
"I have seen you love, protect, and how much you have given without getting anything in return. I wish our sweet baby could’ve seen just how wonderful a mother you are."
And he concluded as follows:
Not all mothers arms get to hold their little one, or get to hear their baby’s laughs and cries. You may have missed out on these things since our baby was called home to be with Jesus, but you ARE a mother.
I love you Lauren!
The reality stars sadly confirmed in February that they had lost their first pregnancy.
“A couple months ago, we found out that we were expecting, but suddenly thereafter, we lost our baby,” Lauren said in a TLC announcement that aired right before a new season of Counting On commenced.
Added Josiah in this video:
“It really was a hard time for our family going through this right after we got married. And all the dreams of getting to see our little one and hold it in our hands dashed before our eyes."
It really is difficult to imagine anything more devastating.
And it probably doesn't help these days that Anna Duggar, Amy Duggar, Jessa Seewalk and Kendra Caldwell are ALL expecting children.
Everywhere Josiah and Laurn turn, another relative is pregnant.
There's even been some controversy over whether or not these women should chill out with how often they mention their pregnancies in order to stop reminding Lauren of what transpired.
Not that she'd possibly forget it anyway, of course.
A few days after she broke this tragic news to her followers and fans, Lauren thanked them for their support.
“I just want to thank each and everyone of you for your prayers, support, and for all you Mama’s out there for sharing your angel baby stories,” the Counting On cast member captioned an Instagram image of a framed wedding photo of her and her husband atop a piano.
She added in this post:
"It’s easy to share those happy times in our lives, but sharing something hard, like losing a baby can be like putting salt to a wound.
"I know by y’all sharing your stories it has not only helped me, but many other women who have gone through the same trials."
Lauren then concluded with a bible verse from Psalm 147:3:
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
We continue to send our best wishes to Lauren and Josiah Duggar.
