If you're a Teen Mom OG viewer, then you're probably aware that Ryan Edwards has had one hell of a difficult year.
Even by the standards of the MTV franchise, which you can't be on if you haven't had something of a rough ride.
For the most part, Ryan's problems are self-created. No one is disputing that or making excuses for him whatsoever.
Even so, it's been difficult to watch Edwards' downward spiral unfold on social media and in front of MTV cameras.
The trouble began when Edwards got arrested back in March for a probation violation stemming from an earlier arrest for heroin possession.
In the weeks that followed that incident, Ryan's life began to unravel even further, and at rather astonishing speed.
First, the reality star was caught cheating on Mackenzie Standifer, his wife, who is currently pregnant with his second child.
It wasn't the first time, either.
Shortly thereafter, things went from bad to much worse as Ryan's ex Maci Bookout filed for a restraining order against him.
That court order prevented the troubled Tennessean from having any contact with his first child, 9-year-old son Bentley.
That order has since been lifted, but it seems Ryan still hasn't had any contact with Bentley since Maci sought legal action.
This week, Ryan's father, Larry Edwards, spoke with celebrity gossip site Radar Online and spoke about his mental state.
It's not good.
According to his father, a frequent fixture on Teen Mom 2, Ryan hasn't seen his son since the restraining order was first granted.
“Ryan really missed Bentley,” Larry told the site, though it's unclear, as always, what effort Ryan has really made in that regard.
“He hasn’t seen him, not yet,” Larry added.
He went on to say that he and his wife have still enjoyed weekend visits with Bentley, but that Ryan has not been involved.
“It’s been sporadic, but we have been with Bentley on a couple of weekends,” Larry, who has long cared for the boy, said.
“Ryan has to leave the house at the time," he adds, noting that Maci has not tried to keep Bentley from his grandparents.
"She’s given us the opportunity to see him.”
Despite what sounds like a dire situation, Larry maintains (somewhat dubiously) that his son is holding up very well lately.
“Ryan is doing fantastic,” says the grandfather.
Larry adds (also somewhat dubiously) that despite rumors of Ryan and Mackenzie breaking up, the couple is going strong.
Cheating and divorce talk aside, they're together and looking forward to welcoming a new addition to their family, he says.
“Ryan is very excited that it’s a boy,” Larry says, although, “we wanted a little girl because we don’t have a little girl!"
Well, sure. Girls are cute, but at this point, we just hope that the child is raised by capable, loving and present parents.
That's a lot more important than the gender.
Obviously, Ryan has a long way to go toward becoming a suitable husband to Mackenzie and father to his two boys.
But for now at least, it sounds like he's on the right track - if you believe his father's quotes are more than wishful thinking.

There's a lot of turbulence.
