Jeremy Vuolo Net Worth: Does Jinger Duggar's Husband Make ANY Money?

by at .  Updated at .

Before he rose to reality TV fame by courting Jinger Duggar of Counting On fame, Jeremy Vuolo traveled a rather unique career path.

After getting his start as a professional soccer player, Vuolo pursued a career as a preacher in small-town Laredo, Texas.

However, there's some disagreement as to how this change in professions came to pass, and why. Allow us to explain ...

Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo

Prior to Jinger and Jeremy's wedding, the Duggars posted a bio of Vuolo on their official blog that some critics say is less than truthful.

Specifically, they've been accused of exaggerating Jeremy's level of success in both of his chosen career fields to date.

The official Duggar family description holds that Jeremy was an all-star goalkeeper in the North American Soccer League.

When he heard the call to join the ministry, Vuolo heeded that call and hung up his cleats - or so the Duggars' story goes.

For obvious reasons, it's a biography that's further endeared the charming, handsome Jeremy to the show's pious fans base.

Unfortunately, it's also largely fabricated.

It's true that Jeremy was a college soccer standout first at Upstate New York's Hartwick College, then at Syracuse University.

After finishing college, he signed with the Finnish club AC Oulu, where he indeed went professional and recorded 24 starts.

Jeremy eventually returned to the States, and won a spot on the roster of the Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls.

He was released, though, before playing a single game.

In tryouts, Vuolo's level of play was impressive enough to earn him a spot in the eight-team NASL, which is no mean feat.

However, by all accounts he played consistently, but not remarkably, during a stint with the San Antonio Scorpions as a backup goalie.

Jinger and Jeremy's Big Moment

Jeremy was released from the team in 2013, and it was during that time when he tried his hand at preaching for the first time.

In 2014, he was given another shot at professional soccer stardom, but was once again released before ever taking the field.

All of this is not to disparage Vuolo's skills, as going pro in a sport of such global popularity is an impressive accomplishment.

However, soccer isn't quite as popular in the U.S. as it is in other nations, and as a result, most players aren't paid very well.

The largest contract Jeremy signed was for $44,000, but as he never completed a full season, he never received even that.

As for Jeremy's second career as a preacher?

Jin-Jer

Well, for obvious reasons, there are no definitive numbers on Jer's earnings after he left the NASL and retired from the sport.

Nevertheless, we think it's safe to say Jim Bob Duggar's concerns about Vuolo's ability to provide for Jinger were well-founded.

It seems that like the others who have married into the Duggar family, Jeremy didn't start earning the big bucks until TLC came along.

When he became a member of one of TV's most famous (and infamous) broods, there's no question his earning potential incrased.

While there's no shame in the fact that Jeremy didn't get rich before marrying Jinger, the Duggars' treatment of the subject is curious.

Why were they so intent on telling fans otherwise?
