With his six-month suspension about to expire, Brian Williams received the word today from NBC:

He will no longer anchor its regular news coverage, as Holt will remain in place and Williams will transition to MSNBC as “anchor of breaking news and special reports."

Back in February, Williams was suspended for six months after it came out that he misled the public in regard events that occurred in 2003 in Iraq.

In the weeks that followed, more of Williams’ reporting and anecdotes were called into question.

According to an NBC press release today, the decision to demote Williams made after an “extensive review” confirmed that he “made a number of inaccurate statements” about his experiences covering news in the field.

“I’m sorry,” Williams said in his own statement. “I said things that weren’t true. I let down my NBC colleagues and our viewers, and I’m determined to earn back their trust.”

Williams, meanwhile, taped an interview with Matt Lauer that will air Friday on Today and Nightly News.

If things don’t work out on the news front for Williams, he could always go into the rapping business.
