It’s a good time to be a cartoon. This holiday weekend, the minions of Despicable Me 2 brought home the bacon with a thorough box office beat down of The Lone Ranger.
Beat down might not be strong enough words for what happened. Obliterated perhaps? Whatever you call it, The Lone Ranger‘s $29.4 million absolutely paled in comparison to the whopping $82.5 million brought in by Gru and company.
Steve Carrell was actually a part of the other success story of the weekend as well, starring in The Way, Way Back.

The summer vacation-themed ensemble film – while in very limited release – brought in $575,000, good for an average of $30K at each theater, best of the weekend.
