The maligned city of Detroit, Michigan, has the unpleasant distinction of topping Forbes’ Most Dangerous Cities in America list for the fourth straight year.

Forbes compiled the list by ranking cities with a population over 200,000 according to violent crime rate, as reported by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports database.

While the rate of violent crime such as murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault fell 10 percent last year, gangs are responsible for Detroit’s unrivaled troubles.

Detroit has a violent crime rate of 2,137 per 100,000 residents.

St. Louis is next on the Forbes list, while Oakland holds the number three spot. Poverty and proximity to a drug trafficking corridor account for both cities’ violence.
