One of our favorite celebrities on the entire planet turns 24 years old today.

Won’t you join us in honoring Demi Lovato?

The singer celebrates her birthday on August 20 and we’re only too happy to celebrate Lovato on a constant basis.

Why? First, because she’s pretty talented.

Lovato writes a lot of her own material and puts on a pretty great show, as millions of young fans who have attended her concerts can attest to.

But that’s only the beginning.

Lovato is truly one of our role models in Hollywood because she is never afraid to speak her mind.

Not even a quarter-century old yet, Demi has been through more in her short life than most people will go through in eight decades.

As Lovato has no problem talking about, she spent several weeks in rehab toward the end of 2010, battling an addiction to various drugs as well as an eating disorder.

Since that time, to use a cliche, Lovato has been committed to keeping it real.

Ask her about being anorexic? Lovato will explain what life was like for her back in the day.

Bring up her hard drug use? Lovato will tell you how she used to sneak cocaine on to airplanes.

Has she been diagnosed as bipolar? Yes, and Lovato will talk openly about how this still affects her to this day.

The artist is unafraid to touch on these topics because she wants to set a positive example to anyone who has ever suffered through any of these problems.

As a result, Lovato has been given a national platform at times.

She actually delivered a brief speech and performed at the 2016 Democratic National Convention last month.

Here is what she said:

Pretty cool, huh?

It’s hard to imagine Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez ever being invited to do such a thing, isn’t it?

And that’s not a slight by any means. They are mostly performers who do their job very, very well.

But Lovato has become more than just a performer. She clearly aims to do more than just sell a bunch of albums.

And that is why we love her.

"I lived fast and I was going to die young," Lovato recently told American Way. "I didn’t think I would make it to 21."

She went on to talk about her self-medication with alcohol, cocaine and OxyContin back in the day.

However, Demi added that she took her last drink in January of 2012 and continues to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

"When I have meet-and-greets, I can’t tell you the amount of times that girls will show me their arms covered in scars or cuts," Lovato explained to American Way, having been a cutter herself as a youngster.

"They’ll tell me, ‘You helped me get through this. Because of you, I stopped self-harming,’ or ‘I got sober.’

"Hearing those things gave my life new meaning…

"At times I was resentful for having that kind of responsibility. But now, it’s really become a part of my life. It holds me accountable."

And there it is. What else is there to say?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEMI LOVATO!
