Rhodes at Jul 24, 2018 • Category Demi Lovato Demi Lovato is in need of your prayers right now.According to TMZ and other typically-reliable outlets, the beloved singer was rushed to a hospital around noon on Tuesday, July 24.It is believed she suffered a heroin overdose. With details still coming in, we’ve recapped what we know so far, along with Lovato’s unfortunate history of drug use below.Hang in there, Demi… 1 What Do We Know? Insiders have told TMZ that Lovato was transported to a local hospital early Tuesday afternoon. She was taken there from her home in Hollywood Hills after she was found unconscious. 2 What is Her Status? We wish we knew. The artist is being treated by doctors as we write this, but her condition is unknown right now. (UPDATE: Demi’s aunt, Kerissa Dunn, posted on social media that Demi is “awake and responsive.”) 3 The Official Word “LAPD and LAFD responded to a medical emergency at the 8000 block of Laurel View Dr. at 11:40 a.m.” the Los Angeles Police Department has told People Magazine. 4 Furthermore… A representative for the Los Angeles Fire Department also told this same publication that they “transported a 25-year-old female patient to a local hospital.” These departments, of course, cannot release the patient’s name. 5 How Serious Was the Overdose? VERY, it sounds like. Law enforcement sources tell TMZthat Demi was treated with Narcan – an emergency treatment for narcotic overdoses – at her house, which is where the incident took place. 6 To the Rescue? This is what a source told Us Weekly about the situation: “One of her friends had Narcan on hand in case something like this happened. Her friends knew this was coming because she’s been using so much again. They were up all night partying the night before at her house. Luckily, the Narcan worked and she will recover.” 7 Could We Have Seen This Coming? Yes, tragically. For multiple reasons, the most obvious of which is that Lovato is an admitted addict and you know the creed of every addict, right? “One day at a time.” This is a disease of which they are never cured. 8 She Has an Extensive History Lovato has battled addiction, mental illness and eating disorders since she was a young teenager. In 2010, she entered rehab, where she received professional help for bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm and addiction. 9 But it Wasn’t the Right Time “I wasn’t ready to get sober. I was sneaking it on planes, sneaking it in bathrooms, sneaking it throughout the night,” Lovato said years later of this first treatment center visit. 10 From There? Lovato sadly relapsed after she left the treatment center, entering a sober living facility for a year afterward in an attempt to kick her addictive, dangerous habits. 11 An Outspoken Role Model Lovato has been as open as one can be about her demons. “Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life, but I work every day towards solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes,” she Lovato said in January of this year. 12 How Bad Did It Get For Her? Lovato is on record as saying she used to snort cocaine all the time. 13 What Has She Said About Her Struggles? “Prior to getting sober, I was one of those people who was like, I don’t give a f-ck, whatever,” Lovato once told Refinery 29, adding: “I used that as an excuse to do whatever I wanted… I still have more things to prove – not just about the things I can do with my voice. Some people think that because I’m young, I can’t stay sober. But these are things I want to prove to myself.” 14 More Open Thoughts: In a YouTube documentary about the artist that debuted last fall called Simply Complicated, the star opened up about her past drug use, which began when she was 17, saying: “I felt out of control the first time I did it. My dad was an addict and an alcoholic. Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family.” 15 Where Did Things Go Wrong? There’s no way of knowing. Lovato has even said she contemplated suicide at the age of 7. 16 But Why Did She Relapse? It is a mystery at the moment, with there likely being no definitive answer. In March 2018, Lovato said the following upon being sober for six years: “So grateful for another year of joy, health and happiness. It IS possible.” 17 Fast Forward a Few Months… … and Demi sang in a song titled “Sober” about her relapse. It was heartbreaking. These were the lyrics that drew attention from the single: Mama, I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore / And Daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor / To the ones who never left me / We’ve been down this road before I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore. 18 Can I Listen to This Song?Yes, click on the video above. 19 Other Possible Signs of Trouble Lovato fired her long-time manager earlier this summer. Just because she wanted to move in a new professional direction? Maybe. Or it could have been a sign that she was on a downward spiral. 20 What Have Insiders Claimed? Aside from her aforementioned song, Demi has said little in public of late about her addiction. Her friends have been loyal and remained quiet, too. But “Demi felt terrible about herself and was really depressed,” a source told Us in June about her relapse and confession. “She honestly felt like she let her fans down and that she owed them the truth.” 21 Were There Signs on Social Media? No. That’s almost never how this works. Three days before her overdose, Lovato shared this picture and wrote as a caption “Suns out, buns out.” 22 What Now? At the end of the “Sober” song, Lovato sang as follows: “I’m sorry that I’m here again / I promise I’ll get help / It wasn’t my intention / I’m sorry to myself.” God willing, she emerges from this overdose stronger and more dedicated than ever to getting better. 23 Hang in There, Demi “To my fans, my family, and my supporters, the ones who never left me, you are my light,” Demi wrote on Instagram after her relapse admission went viral. “I am forever grateful.” We hope she knows that we feel similarly about her. 24 What Did Her Immediate Future Hold? Demi just performed on Sunday at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles with Iggy Azalea and was scheduled to perform in Atlantic City this week. 25 The Prayers are Coming In This is what Ariana Grande wrote upon hearing about Demi.
