On 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? Season 7, Episode 7, multiple couples seemed beyond hope.
And that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.
First, Angela’s screaming tantrum outside of Michael’s home finally got his attention. The results were explosive.
Bilal managed to win over some viewers. Does he lecture and have control issues? Yes. But Shaeeda has some very unrealistic ideas about parenting.
Liz is feeling hyped and excited for her engagement party. But there’s no good occasion that Big Ed can’t ruin.
Andrei meets with his immigration attorney, who warns him that his interview to renew his green card is a red flag. Is someone trying to sabotage him?
Jenny hears good news from her daughter, and tries something unfamiliar and new to spice things up with Sumit.
Finally, Usman meets with his mother to discuss her meeting Kimberly. It could not have gone worse.
Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi
Continuing to yell, scream, and damage Michael’s car — which she claims is her legal right as his wife — Angela and her friend Rene are taunting Michael and trying to force him to come outside.
Angela rips off a license plate
Even if Nigerian marriage law gives her a legal right to destroy her husband’s property, that is not the same as moral justification. And no, her claims to have paid for the vehicle do not cover her on moral grounds, either. A gift is a gift. It is not uncommon for abusers, either parters or parents, to claim that they have a right to destroy someone else’s property. It is no surprise to hear someone as toxic as Angela make the same claim.
Well, that’s the truth
Angela declares that Michael “got the wrong, wrong American,” which is certainly not wrong.
Angela describes herself as a “fighter”
Again, that is accurate, but also not in the way that she meant it. She explains that she is doing all of this because she feels “hurt,” but seems to struggle to explain exactly why she feels this way. Her core contention seems to be that Michael has created an Instagram account and refuses to delete it despite her demands. For a toxic and controlling person, Michael making an independent choice like this has sent her into a rage spiral. Now, he’s not coming out of the house despite her act of vandalism.
Michael emerges
It looks like he came out a side door or something (we truly do not know the layout here). He is shocked, horrified, and angry.
For once, Michael fires back
His horror and disgust at this humilaiting display is palpable. Fortunately, his brother is there, and so are producers, both of whom seem to be the only parties keeping this from becoming a physical fight.
“Are you mad?!”
This is an antiquated (or at the very least, British) turn of phrase for native English speakers, but it’s not funny coming from Michael. He has just found his nightmarish wife giving him a nasty surprise, damaging his car and screaming in the street in front of his neighbors.
Angela is furious at more than just Michael
She has decided to blame his brother, Yekini. She claims that Michael’s family doesn’t really like her (honestly, who would?) and that if they did, they would “see through” Michael’s act. Again, the guy has a public Instagram account. What exactly is his scheme other than becoming a paid influencer?
Angela blasts Michael and his entire family
Perhaps, at the Tell All, Angela will manage to actually articulate what she means by Michael wronging her. Thus far, she is simply withholding money from her spouse over a public social media account.
For that matter, what scam?
Many people have expressed the suspicion that Michael is a scammer of some kind, but Angela seems to be using it as synonymous with “cheating.” To what scam does she refer? Earnest marriages built upon a foundation of love can also include cheating.
Like many viewers, Michael wants Angela gone
They both separately exclaim “I’m done,” which is all but this franchise’s catchphrase. Production promises to remove Angela. We do not envy them in the slightest for having to wrangle her.
Or drive her around while she and Rene smoke up a storm
Angela tells Rene, who cannot reel her in, that she’s going to fly back home and never return to Nigeria. If that were true, we would all breathe a sigh of relief on Michael’s behalf. No one on the planet deserves to be treated how she has treated him.
Bilal Hazzies and Shaeeda Sween
Their segment opens with Shaeeda learning to drive in America. Unlike the vast majority of the world, Trinidad features left-side driving (like the UK), so this is an adjustment. Shaeeda claims that she has a “heavy foot,” meaning that she presses the pedals strongly. Not to worry. Bilal is always there to take control.
But their real issue is more consequential
Shaeeda is ready to have kids. Bilal is not, but he’s still refusing to give her a hard “no.” That might mean admitting that it was always “no” even before they married, or it might mean that Bilal will one day stop stringing her along.
They talk to the doctor
Shaeeda’s hormone levels are good for potentially conceiving a child, though thus far, they have used condoms and thus have not “tried” for a baby (despite a couple of slip-ups that could have led to conception). However, the test on her eggs has not yet come back.
It’s time to make a list of pros and cons
Bilal makes a chart. Shaeeda notes a pro of improving her perspective. Bilal notes that having a new child can be a source of stress. Shaeeda argues that a child could have the opposite effect. Also, he notes that Shaeeda is at least as much of a germophobe as he is, and there are a lot of unsanitary aspects to having a newborn. Bilal also notes the financial burden, while Shaeeda points out that having children means a legacy.
To Shaeeda, all of his concerns are temporary
In her mind, the benefits of having a child will last a lifetime, while the burdens are temporary. That is certainly an optimistic way of looking at things. Not necessarily wrong, but not necessarily right either. Bilal then points out to her that, at the moment, she can get cranky if she gets less than 10 hours of sleep.
Shaeeda thinks that her baby will magically learn a schedule
In reality, some newborns sleep through the night, but many do not. Some will wake up to feed every hour or two for months and months. It is very clear from this conversation that Bilal is the one with direct childcare experience and Shaeeda is the one who is an aunt but has never been a parent.
Bilal’s biggest issue …
He obviously has abandonment issues from his ex-wife, but because Shaeeda sometimes talks about ending the marriage if things do not go her way, he is terrified of once again going through a divorce with a child in the mix.
Later, Bilal chats with coworkers
Lisa and Stacy are only vaguely aware that Bilal is in a relationship. In fact, they only found out about it when someone mentioned to them at a party that Bilal did not need anyone to play matchmaker. It is not entirely surprising that Bilal is reserved about his private life at work. However, today, he has a lunch date. That means that Lisa and Stacy will actually get to meet Shaeeda.
They have so many questions
Stacy and Lisa are polite and happy to meet her. They also want to swap gossip about Bilal (of course). It’s a very good-natured conversation. It also involves Shaeeda sharing with Bilal’s coworkers their disagreement about when to have a kid (might be weird to mention when you first meet, but this is a reality show, so conversations have to happen on camera).
Lisa and Stacy are actually Team Shaeeda
They remind Bilal that having a uterus means having a ticking clock. Not everyone wants to have kids, but for those who do, being able to conceive naturally and safely carry a pregnancy to term is no guarantee. It doesn’t look like Bilal can manipulate, mansplain, malewife his way out of this one.
Ed Brown and Liz Woods
Even though so many people (like Ed’s mother and daughter) do not approve and are not attending, Liz is psyched for her engagement party with Ed. Her previous two marriages were mistakes, and while this one absolutely is also, Liz doesn’t seem to be willing or ready to accept that yet.
It’s party time!
They arrive, dressed like they’re visiting The Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge in the background when Batman bursts in looking for information. Honestly, that does feel like their vibe as a couple.
It’s a crowded event
One guy misses a high five from Big Ed (ouch) but the party seems to be going well.
Oh no
Ed jokes that he is a cross between Danny DeVito and George Clooney. What’s funny about that is that, for years, we have noted that he likes to think of himself as Danny DeVito (the lovable actor) but acts more like Frank Reynolds (the despicable character whom DeVito portrays on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia). His self-awareness is minimal at times.
Liz’s mom is there
She seems to somewhat approve. On the one hand, Ed is decades older than Liz. But despite the age gap, Patty notes that she has seen him “take care of” Liz in ways that reassure her about the relationship.
Obviously, Ed sabotages himself immediately
He blurts out that he shouldn’t call Patty “Mommy” because he is older than she is. Silence is golden, dude.
It’s a card moment
From pandemics to military invasions to off-camera drama, TLC title cards always mean that something went down. In this case, Liz had an off-camera argument with a woman.
The woman left. End of story?
Not if Ed has anything to do with it.
Liz goes in for some affection with her fiance
But between his insecurities and his seemingly irresistible impulses to upset the women in his life, Ed sabotages what should be a tender moment.
“Were you in a relationship with her?”
Just because being gay or bi isn’t a bad thing doesn’t mean that the accusation of it is neutral. Ed’s question here, on a mic while they’re filming a reality show, is absolutely a public accusation. Either it’s false or he’s trying to out her on television. Notably, Ed outed his ex, Rosemarie Vega, during their season’s Tell All. Rose is bi but had no intention of coming out until he told that to the world. There is no excuse for his behavior. There never was.
Liz does the smart thing
She walks away. And when Ed starts slowly following her, she crosses the street to avoid him.
Liz also accurately describes him
She knows that he is a deeply insecure man who will make it her problem, but she didn’t see this coming.
This was a wakeup call for her
Probably not enough to permanently end this toxic relationship (Liz, you can do better!), but she does note that it really hit home how she cares for him more than he does or will ever care for her.
Ed calls her, and it’s not to apologize
The notorious douchecanoe calls to excoriate her for having “ruined the entire evening” for her family and everyone else. Ed, literally you were the one who did this.
He can’t stop himself
Liz noted that Ed is sabotaging their evening and relationship because he thinks that one woman was attracted to her. Apparently, after one of their breakups, Liz said something about being done with men altogether, and Ed’s twisted mind has been fixated on that ever since.
He vows to investigate
Ed insists that they won’t marry until he knows her entire history — which is none of his business, by the way. This really reminds us of how he treated Rosemarie Vega. Has he bought Liz a toothbrush and forced her to take an STI panel, or does he reserve that for non-Americans? Remember how Ed claimed that he had changed and grown because of therapy? Yeah, he’s the same old Ed.
Elizabeth Potthast and Andrei Castravet
Andrei meets with Emel Ersan, his immigration attorney. At first, this meeting seems like it’s just about making plans for his green card renewal interview. But she notes that it is very unusual for someone like him to need an interview to renew a green card after two years. It should have been a simple formality, and it isn’t.
Apparently, it’s about his past
Andrei explains vaguely about how he was a police officer in Moldova, and testified as part of an anti-corruption operation — allegedly resulting in his move to Ireland, which is of course where he met Libby.
This doesn’t feel right
Andrei and Libby have a kid. He hasn’t gotten into any trouble in the United States. He and Libby are still together, still married. It feels, she says, like someone has called to “report” him for something, real or imagined, that is causing immigration officials to give him further scrutiny.
Does Andrei have any enemies?
Well, yes. A number of Libby’s family members despise him, some more openly than others. Any one of them might have called in to leave a tip. They wouldn’t even have to lie, necessarily, to make things harder for Andrei.
This could have real consequences
Worst case scenario, and she has seen this happen, is Andrei could end up in deportation proceedings. Immigration officials do not have to approach him with a presumption of innocence like they would in a criminal trial.
Could one of Elizabeth’s siblings have really done this?
Possibly. On the one hand, one can imagine the temptation — if, without breaking any law and without lying, you could rid yourself of a nuisance who is tearing your family apart or perhaps even hurting your finances, the temptation would be there. But that doesn’t mean that it’s true.
Andrei shares the bad news with Libby
Pro tip: If you’re not doing anything wrong or anything illegal, don’t call it “snitching.” Call it slander or false accusations or something.
Libby feels like they’re moving backwards
She also fears that Andrei might be deported. She would have to go with him, she has decided, and that’s not what she wants her for herself or for Ellie.
Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh
Jenny calls her daughter, Christina, to update her about life in India and their honeymoon.
Christina has exciting news! She and her wife, Jen, are going to come to India to see Jenny and Sumit. Christina wants to know Sumit better, especially now that he’s sort of her “pop.” When Jenny mentions the Kama Sutra stuff, Christina is all for it, suggesting that it might “spice up” Jenny’s new marriage. Jenny tells the camera that perhaps her reluctance is generational, since Christina and Sumit are all for it.
But she’s still hesitant
In part, Jenny is just uncomfortable with trying something new that is also erotic. She is also under the impression that Kama Sutra is all about sex and sexual positions, a common misconception that is the result of generations of British colonialism and orientalism.
Sumit is eager
He can only try something like this with his wife, so it’s not like he can go alone or just bring a friend. Also, he hopes that this will give them a sturdy sexual foundation for the future — in stead of waiting for a dry spell.
Jenny agrees to try it out
Her caveat is that she can leave if it gets too weird. Also? Sumit’s shirt here is fantastic.
There is another aspect to Jenny’s reluctance
Her one experience doing yoga so far in life was not a good one. It was with Sumit’s mother, who despises her. Now it’s not only a yoga class, but a Kama Sutra yoga class. She doesn’t know what to expect.
They go
Jenny finds that it’s a bit of an adjustment to learn the new poses, but Sumit translates the instructor’s guidance to her.
As for the instructor
He does admit that he has never seen this kind of age gap in India, and has never taught someone of Jenny’s age. He sounds concerned about her safety during certain poses.
The rest of the class seems entertained
Presumably, they all signed a waiver allowing production to film them, and they just seem amused by Jenny’s unfamiliarity with it all.
Some of it is a little steamy
But we’ll take Jenny and Sumit chanting Om at each other over Jesse Meester and Jeniffer Tarazona breathing into each other’s mouths any day.
Kimberly Menzies and Usman Umar
They are packing up the “yammy room” at the hotel to head to Usman’s home region, where she will meet his family. If all goes well.
Welcome to Sokoto
It is, Usman cautions, a much more religiously devout and conservative region than where they were before.
Usman also hypes up his fame
He claims that he is the most famous person from this region, and that he experiences many benefits because of his level of stardom. Okay.
Kimberly tries to fistbump his friend
Usman explains that men are not allowed to touch women at all, here. It’s a cultural expectation. No hugs, not handshakes. Not unless you are partners or family.
Usman meets with his mother alone
He is doing a hard sell of Kimberly, but he knows that his mother is reluctant. Not only because of factors like Kimberly’s age, but because of what went down with Lisa Hamme.
The obvious question
Her response to Kimberly being 50 is along the lines of “oh God,” so that’s already off to a good start.
Usman promises to take a second wife
But he wants Kimberly as his wife first. His mother would rather that he do the opposite, and take an American wife — presumably, a younger one — after giving her grandchildren.
HARSH
Usman’s mother, without whom he will not marry Kimberly because her approval is just that important, is not mincing words. She hasn’t even met Kimberly but she’s already saying “no.”
She doesn’t want to hear it
Usman then hears that she will not change her mind and give her blessing in the future, either.
