Amber Portwood has spoken out for the first time since her arrest for domestic assault on July 5.
Like, truly for the first time, we mean.
Yes, the troubled Teen Mom OG star has shared the occasional cryptic social media post.
But she hasn't directly addressed what went down between her and Andrew Glennon (and their young son, James) during an incident that led to her being charged with THREE felonies.
Most specifically, she hasn't directly addressed the accusation that she attacked Glennon and James with a machete...
... until now.
As part of a Teen Mom reunion special that aired on September 3, Amber spoke to Dr. Drew Pinsky about this arrest and this allegation.
Here is what she said:
Let's Go Over the Arrest Again, Shall We?
Glennon texted 911 early on the morning of July 5 and told the operator that he thought Portwood really might kill him or little James, who was around 14 months old at the time.
Portwood Was Then Arrested
The reality TV star was subsequently charged with domestic battery, criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon and domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, per court documents obtained various outlets.
What Did She Do?
This is the main question, right? Amber has admitted to throwing a shoe at Glennon, but told the police that it barely grazed him.
Did She Threaten Suicide?
Yes, Glennon has said. He told authorities that Amber actually swallowed a number of Klonopin pills, only to later throw them back up.
Amber Has Denied This Claim
Not personally. We haven't heard her say it. But sources have indicated that Portwood denies the suicide/pill allegation.
Okay. Now Let's Discuss the Machete.
Glennon has said he ran into a bathroom with James in his arms and slammed the door shut, locking Amber out, prior to contacing 911.
He told police that Amber grabbed a machete (which is a type of sword) and used it against the bathroom door, trying to break it down in order to get to her loved ones.
Did This Actually Happen?
Yes, according to Glennon. But no, we can now officially state, according to Portwood.
She Actually Said This?
Yes. She sat down with Dr. Drew and answered the machete question by first bringing up her own troubled past.
Look at My History!
"I literally opted out of drug court a long time to put myself in prison to help myself," she tells Dr. Drew, referring to her arrest in 2012 for assault against then-boyfriend Gary Shirley and how she then violated her probation by being caught with prescription pills. Amber was sentenced to 17 months in prison for this violation.
Let's Be Reasonable Here, Guys
Amber went on to ask Dr. Drew why she would "jeopardize" this freedom by actually attacking her boyfriend with a machere. "You haven't heard jacksh-t from me since [my last arrest]," she says. "I haven't gotten in trouble one time."
This is Sort of True
Portwood has not been arrested, no. But she has spent time in rehab for depression and mental illness.
And Isn't That What This is All About?
No one is alleging that Portwood planned some sort of assault against Glennon. By his account, she simply flipped out on him after their family got caught in traffic and missed a July 4 fireworks show. Amber blamed Andrew for this mishap.
In Other Words? It Was an Emotional Response
And Portwood herself has admitted, on multiple occasions, that she has serious problems handling her emotions.
Whatever, Though, Amber Says Here
To conclude this segment of her interview with Pinsky, Amber addresses Amber and says: "All of a sudden I'm attacking my kid with a machete? You're insane!"
She Never Flat-Out Denies the Allegation, Does She?
We're just sayin.
Where Do Things Stand at the Moment?
Amber is permitted to see James, but only alongside a court-approved supervisor.
Glennon Has Also Filed for Primary Custody
He wants to be the sole caregiver for James and has hinted that he may even move far away with the toddler.
The Relationship is Clearly Over, Right?
Nope! Not for sure! Glennon has hinted that he might give this romance another shot.
Come On. Really?!?
"The future's unknown," Andrew has said. "All I know is what I need to do right now and that is to provide James with a safe, secure happy environment."
No Offense to Amber...
... but let's be clear: That means you cannot get back together with her, dude.
