Is this because Katy Perry is super cringe now?
Is this because she’s been accused of sexual assault? (That investigation is still underway, by the way.)
We can only guess.
Whatever the reason, Christina Ricci is throwing shade in her direction. And people are eating it up.

It started with Met Gala pics
On Instagram, Variety posted a series of photos from the Met Gala.
As you can see below, these snaps featured Katy Perry alongside Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie.
“Connor Storrie poses with Katy Perry at the Met Gala,” the caption begins.
The caption then explains that the actor was, in one photo, “jokingly hiding his face to match her look.”
Yes, Perry’s costume allowed her to bare her face at times.
Perry wore a face mask that looks like something out of Star Wars‘ now-nearly-apocryphal The Old Republic era, obscuring all of her face — except when she chose to bare it.
With the latch that opens, the effect is reminiscent of a locket with someone’s photograph inside.
(Perry’s ensemble was also a little reminiscent of a futuristic nun, which might be awkward for her, considering her infamous real estate battles leading to people joking that she “killed” a nun.)
It was no surprise for Perry to avoid the Met Gala boycott over Trump ally Jeff Bezos essentially buying his wife’s role in the charitable fundraiser.
After all, she let him send her to space. She did return, and dug herself into a deeper PR hole with some of her commentary.

‘Yikes’
What is now drawing more eyes than Perry’s look is one comment in particular.
“Yikes,” Christina Ricci left as a public comment under Variety’s post.
In theory, it could be disapproval of Perry’s wardrobe or could even be directed at Connor Storrie.
(Commenters have observed that Storrie appeared to be reluctantly posing for a pic out of politeness, but that is pure speculation.)
Most assume that Ricci is referring to Perry. Not to her costume, but to her whole vibe. To the singer as a person.

As we said, Perry has been sort of cringe for a while.
Some of that was unfair, though the singer has made some bad calls, had some avoidable PR moments, and overall gave the vibe of someone trying too hard.
However, it has only been a few weeks since Ruby Rose accused Perry of sexually assaulting her at a nightclub in Melbourne back in 2010.
Perry has denied the allegation. Police are investigating. And Rose explained that she kept quiet, in part, because Perry had helped her to obtain a visa.
It’s an ugly mess. And many are assuming that Ricci was referring to this when she wrote “yikes” under that post.
