One week later, the mystery remains.
As previously reported, Jordan Cashmyer died earlier this month at the very young age of 26.
The former reality star had been featured on a 2014 episode of MTV’s 16 & Pregnant, which documented her struggles at the time with expecting a child while also battling homelessness.
In the years since, Cashmyer was often in the news for such unfortunate reasons as a dependance on drugs and/or time spent working as an escort.
According to a long-ago social media update, however, Cashmyer got sober in early 2021.
She then welcomed her second child, a girl named Lilah, about seven months prior to her passing.
Cashmyer’s death was announced by family stepmother Jessica Cashmyer in a Facebook post via the account of her late husband — and Jordan’s father — Dennis M. Cashmyer Jr. last Sunday.
“Last night I received a call no parent ever wants,” read the message, in part.
“My oldest beloved daughter, Jordan has passed away, she was only 26 years old.
"Our hearts are truly broken. No parent should ever have to go through losing a child, EVER.
"Please keep my family in your thoughts prayers as we navigate through this terrible tragedy."
At the time, no cause of death was given.
And, much to the surprise of many observers, this now remains the case.
We still cannot confirm why or how Jordan Cashmyer died.
Radar Online reports that it spoke to the executive assistant to the Chief Medical Examiner for the state of Maryland, where the MTV star died, yet no further details could be provided, pending an ongoing investigation.
Autopsies typically take several hours to perform and can produce preliminary results in as little as 24 hours.
However, the process could take up to six weeks if other tests – such as toxicology – are needed.
In the case of Cashmyer, who had a history of drug abuse, it does make sense that just such a test would have been ordered.
Jordan appeared on 16 & Pregnant with Derek Taylor, the father of her first child, Genevieve.
She attempted suicide months after losing custody of this daughter and said in 2017:
"Once the Percocets weren’t cutting it anymore, I turned to heroin. Doing the heroin led me to start smoking crack."
Cashmyer was arrested twice that year on possession charges.
A few days ago, meanwhile, Taylor clapped back on Twitter against those who said he was sounding insensitive in the wake of Jordan dying.
“[Genevieve] lost her mom 7 years ago. Whatever damage my daughter was/is going to suffer was set in place 7 years ago,” he told followers and critics, adding:
“Genevieve is better off without her mother. Just as she has been her whole life. Jordan isn’t relevant to my daughters life all the sudden. We’re good over here."
Taylor — whose mother helps him care for the little girl he conceived with Cashmyer — concluded:
"Me and mine are good!! Always have been! Always will be!”
Last September, meanwhile, Jordan’s fiancé and second baby daddy, Michael Schaffer, passed away.
His autopsy results revealed the cause of his death was "cocaine, heroin and fentanyl intoxication."
We send our condolences to the friends, family members and loved ones of Jordan Cashmyer.
