Well, it's official.
After three years of dating, Scott Disick and Sofia Richie have called it quits.
The split was not entirely unexpected, as Scott and Sofia have broken up in the past, but a source assures In Touch Weekly that the couple is “not getting back together this time.”
Speculation about the causes of the split continue to run rampant, and we may never know for sure exactly why these two went their separate ways.
Some say Scott is still in love with Kourtney Kardashian, and Sofia eventually got sick of feeling like his second choice.
Others say Scott's recent stint in rehab is indicative of a relapse, and Sofia was not willing to go down that road with him.
However, that claim was debunked by a statement from Disick's attorney indicating that he sought treatment for emotional issues unrelated to his history of substance abuse.
Whatever the case, it seems Scott and Sofia are both linked with different famous families, and they'll probably both remain in the spotlight.
Her path forward seems relatively clear:
The 22-year-old will likely continue to work as a model and seek her big acting break, and we wouldn't be surprised if there's another reality TV gig or two in her future.
Scott's future, on the other hand, seems far less certain.
And a celebrity brand expert who spoke with In Touch this week says Scott's reputation might be irreparably damaged by the breakup.
According to Eric Schiffer, Scott is in the “dangerously high risk” zone these days.
Schiffer says Disick benefitted “from the grounding given by Sofia and his relationship with her” and now he runs the risk of being looked at as an “an out-of-touch substance abuser.”
He was with Sofia for so long that it's easy to forget how Scott was perceived in the wake of his separation from Kourtney.
Reports of Disick drinking himself to death ran rampant as he traveled the world bedding much-younger women in what seemed to be a sort of never-ending bender.
Sofia helped him get sober and shed that image.
And now, Scott is alone for the first time in a long time -- and he finds himself in uncharted territory.
Schiffer says Sofia will encounter no such struggles and might actually benefit from being single, as the breakup offers an opportunity to "step into her own light” as an individual.
“Sofia soars without Scott and will see a multimillionaire dollar modeling and acting career catapult from her freedom,” he believes.
Obviously, that remains to be seen.
Here's hoping both parties are able to move forward in the healthiest fashion possible.
