Over the past several weeks, nearly all attention paid to Amber Portwood has centered on her relationship with young son James.
That's what happens when you get arrested for domestic assault based on an incident in which you allegedly attack your boyfriend WHILE HE'S HOLDING YOUR 18-MONTH OLD CHILD.
Just a few days ago, for example, we wrote about Amber being upset at Andrew Glennon for reportedly keeping James from her, breaking the terms of their custody agreement.
This was according to Portwood, of course.
We're only saying this right now because it can be easy to forget that the troubled Teen Mom star also has a daughter.
Her name is Leah, she lives with dad Gary Shirley -- and she's now 11 years old!
In honor of the occasion, Amber posted the above photo to Instagram and wrote the following as a caption:
Happy 11th Birthday my beautiful girl!!!
love our hugs. I love our kisses and I love singing together while looking into each other’s eyes. I love how you make me feel every time I see you.
I love the text messages we send of funny gifs and when you say, ‘Goodnight,’ but keep texting emojis.
Portwood then concluded her message as follows:
But what I love most of all is when you tell me I love you Mommy and I say I love you too beautiful..you are everything and more.
Happy Birthday my beautiful girl with the "ocean eyes."
It's a sweet tribute, no doubt.
It just comes at a rather difficult time for Amber and her family.
In July, as you very likely know if you're reading this, the veteran MTV personality was arrested for assaulting Glennon -- with James very much present for the altercation.
After the Indiana native was charged with two counts of domestic battery and one of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, Leah’s father, Gary, and his wife, Kristina Shirley, reacted to the developments.
"I wish we could just wake up and say it was a dream,” Kristina said on an August episode of Teen Mom OG, adding of the little girl:
“Ultimately, Leah is almost 11. She knows a lot of what’s going on. I think the only thing she’s said to me is, ‘If Mommy goes back to prison, what happens to James? Will James be taken away from me as well?’ I don’t have those answers.
That's rather heartbreaking, isn't it?
For an 11-year old to have to consider such questions about her mother and her half-brother?
Amber previously spent many months in jail for an attack against Gary, although the exes have now been on strong terms for years.
Added Gary on the aforementioned Teen Mom OG installment:
"This has an impact on all of us. She didn’t just affect her own self and her own family. It trickles down to us, too."
This is so very true, even if Amber doesn't really see Leah all that often.
Last month, we learned that Portwood agreed a plea deal following her arrest.
The long-time reality star will receive one felony charge for the incident and be on probation for one year.
Her felony charge will be lowered to a misdemeanor provided that no problems arise during the year-long probation period.
This is positive legal news for Amber, but it remains to be decided what will happen to her job on MTV -- and what will happen to her custody rights when it comes to both James and Leah.
