Usually, when someone gets emotional about O.J. Simpson, it’s because they’re filled with rage over the fact that Juice literally got away with murder.
Occasionally, a boomer Buffalo Bills fan might become overwhelmed by wistful nostalgia remembering when O.J. became the first running back to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season back in ’73, but mostly it’s the rage over the whole murder thing.
Of course, unlike the rest of us, Kim Kardashian had a front-row seat for Simpson’s fall from grace.
As you’re likely aware, Kim’s father, Robert Kardashian Sr., was O.J.’s best friend and a trusted legal advisor throughout his historic murder trial.
There have countless bizarre rumors involving O.J. and the Kardashians over the years, but for the most part, Kim has refrained from addressing them publicly.
These days, Simpson is a free man after serving nearly a decade behind bars on charges unrelated to the murders.
And surprisingly, for the first time in a very long time, Kim is opening up on her feelings toward the NFL and true crime icon.
The mother of four appeared on friend Jonathan Cheban’s podcast this week, and the Food God — as he obnoxiously likes to be called — recalled a recent instance in which he happened to cross paths with the Juice.
“The first thing he asks is about you guys, like, ‘How are the girls? How’s everybody?’” Cheban recounted.
From there Kim launched into a recollection of her last encounter with Simpson:
“I think the last time I saw him was in Miami. It was before he had gone to jail this, you know, last situation,” she said.
“I think me, Kourtney [Kardashian] and Khloé [Kardashian] were in Miami in a club and we ran into him in the VIP section. It was behind a stage or something, I don’t even know what club it was at.” Kim went on.
“I started crying. It was emotional, I think.”
Sadness for how things could have played out differently? Relief to have survived an encounter with a physically imposing multiple murderer?
Kim didn’t go into detail about just what drove her to tears.
But she did reveal that she still keeps in touch with the Simpson family:
“I’m still somewhat friendly with his children. I don’t really talk to them, but I did connect with his son a few years back and I just have respect for them,” she said.
“Their lives must be extremely hard to really go through that," Kim continued.
"So I always just try to keep to myself on that issue and not bring anything up for them because, you know, every time someone does it’s super traumatic.”
Shortly after his release, O.J. took to Twitter to address the rumors that he’s actually Khloe Kardashian’s father.
The Juice stressed that he’s never had a sexual relationship with Kris Jenner, though he does see himself as something of a father figure to his late friend’s daughters.
“All the girls, I’m very proud of, just like I know Bob would be if he was here," said Simpson.
Finding out that you’re frequently in the thoughts of O.J. Simpson must be, um … quite an interesting feeling!
