These are tough times for the beloved star of Chrisley Knows Best.

Earlier this week, fans were stunned by the news that Todd Chrisley had been indicted for tax evasion.

Now, the reality star is getting his finances and liquidating some assets ahead of what promises to be a very messy legal battle.

According to a new report from Radar Online, Todd and wife Julie Chrisley are attempting to sell their $4.9 million Tennessee mansion.

While Chrisley has given no indication that the move is connected to his recent legal troubles, it seems a safe bet given the timing.

Todd and Julie moved into the six-bedroom home just four months prior to putting it up for sale.

According to a listing on Zillow, the 13,279 square foot property includes 6 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and a slew of pricey renovations that were reportedly overseen by Chrisley himself.

It’s possible that Todd is cash-strapped and freeing up a few million in case he needs it for defense fees.

It’s also possible that the purchase of the property is in some way tied to the government’s case against the father of five.

Whatever the case, Chrisley is likely bracing himself for quite a battle in court.

Interestingly, the 50-year-old TV personality was the first to break the news of his indictment:

“I’ve never talked about this publicly before, but there’s been a cloud hanging over Julie and me and our entire family for the past seven years,” he wrote on social media earlier this week.

“It all started back in 2012, when we discovered that a trusted employee of ours had been stealing from us big time.”

Chrisley went on to accuse the unidentified former employee of  “creating phony documents, forging our signatures and threatening other employees with violence if they said anything.”

“Needless to say, we fired the guy and took him to court — and that’s when the real trouble started,” he continued.

“To get revenge, he took a bunch of his phony documents to the U.S. Attorney’s office and told them we had committed all kinds of financial crimes, like tax evasion and bank fraud.

"That got their attention all right, but once we had a chance to explain who he was and what he’d done to us, they realized it was all a bunch of nonsense and they sent him on his way.”

Unfortunately for the Chrisleys, that was not the end of the matter:

“As a result, it looks like later this week Julie and I are going to be named in a federal indictment charging us with tax evasion and probably a bunch of other financial crimes as well,” Todd wrote.

“I’m telling you all this now because we have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of. Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it,” he concluded.

Already, Chrisley’s eponymous reality show has been canceled, and the star faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
