The temperature may finally be scorching around most parts of the country, but ABC just announced the date on which its programming will truly heat up.
By which we mean the following:
We now know when Grey's Anatomy will return for Season 16!
Ellen Pompeo and company will return with new episodes of the seemingly never-ending medical drama on Thursday, Septembet 26 at 8/7c.
It will followed by the Season 2 premiere of A Million Little Things at and then the first installment of the final season of How to Get Away With Murder at 10/9c.
As a quick Grey's Anatomy refresher:
On the Season 15 finale, we witnessed Meredith actually say "I love you" to Andrew DeLuca as she visited him in prison... after he took the fall for her insurance fraud crime, which she enacted in order to secure a young patient in asylum proper medical care.
Elsewhere, on the professional side, Bailey was forced to fire Meredith, Alex and Richard for their roles in this crime, as well-intentioned as it may have been.
Pompeo has kept her series in the news ever since this finale aired by talking openly about past frustrations with the cast and the atmosphere on set.
"The first 10 years we had serious culture issues, very bad behavior, really toxic work environment," Pompeo admitted in an interview, adding in further detail this spring:
"But once I started having kids, it became no longer about me. I need to provide for my family."
This is why Pompeo says she never quit the show, despite having inclinations at times to do so.
Pompeo signed a HUGE new deal in early 2018, so her family should most definitely be provided for at this point.
She also said she's been happy with everyone on set for the last several years or so.
This just happens to coincide with the departure of Patrick Dempsey from the series as Meredith's love interest, which is why most observers assumed Pompeo was taking a shot at her former co-star with her above quote.
But the actress insists this wasn't the case.
"None of my comments in print are ever meant to shade anyone. That’s so not productive. My words about my journey are always meant to inspire and reflect," Pompeo Tweeted as a folllow-up to her initial remarks, continuing as follows:
My shade is very obvious when I’m not subtle about it you all should know that!!
I’m aware how much love there is for this show and these characters...no one has more love than me..I’ve dedicated half my life to it. The show has been a blessing for us all in different ways.
The negative vibes...not healthy....and ummmm a doctah.
Are you buying what Pompeo is selling here?
Or do you think she really was taking a shot at Dempsey? Or maybe Katherine Heigl? Or perhaps Isaiah Washington?
Man, Grey's Anatomy really did have more scandals behind its scenes than in front of the camera for a long while there.
As television viewers, we're glad those days are over because the calm atmosphere as likely helped the series remain on the air for so long.
As content creators, however, we sort of yearn for as much off-camera drama as humanly possible.
At least we'll always have Teen Mom, we suppose.
