Over the weekend, Justin Bieber publicly challenged Tom Cruise to an MMA fight, to the confusion of millions.
Fans have questions: What prompted his bizarre challenge? Did he really want to do the fight? Why hasn't he deleted the tweet?
The paparazzi caught up with the Biebs and he has done his best to explain his bizarre behavior.
On Wednesday, the paparazzi caught up with Justin Bieber in Los Angeles.
As TMZ reports, they bombarded Justin with all sorts of questions.
They asked if he thought that he would best Tom Cruise in the fight.
They asked if he had a backup celebrity in mind if his challenge was not accepted -- such as perhaps a Jonas Brother.
Justin calmly listened to the barrage of queries and finally answered when asked if his bonkers tweet was "for real."
"Nah," Justin replied.
When asked if he and Cruise are good friends, Justin replied "I don't know."
He frankly sounded a little worn out.
"The story is, I’d seen an interview with him and he was just on my mind,” the Biebs admitted.
We can only guess which interview that may have been -- he didn't say that it was recent.
Was it the one where he jumped on Oprah's couch? Was it the one that inspired Christian Bale's performance in American Psycho?
But Tom being on his mind doesn't really explain why he challenged him to a violent brawl.
“I don’t know why. …" Justin admits.
So what was going through his mind?
"It was just a random tweet," he offered in explanation, adding: "I do that stuff sometimes."
That sounds a little worrisome, but this isn't the first time that Justin has demonstrated a lack of impulse-control.
If the fight were to go down, Justin sounds like he agrees with me about the hypothetical bout's outcome.
Justin predicts that Tom would "probably whoop my ass in a fight."
If he were to participate in said MMA fight, the Biebs says that he would first need "to get into some good shape."
For anyone whose response to that was what we'd call horny indignation, he means toned muscles for fighting, not just for hotness.
"I’m really skinny right now,” Justin explained. “I think he would probably be out of my weight class."
That's not shade -- Tom Cruise is like a billion years old (he turns 57 next month), but the dude does his own stunts and has no shortage of muscle.
That news will be a massive disappointment to people who dislike one or both stars and wanted to see them get pummeled.
One imagines that notorious douche canoe and MMA fighter Conor McGregor is also bummed out.
He had publicly offered to host the fight.
"If Tom Cruise is man enough to accept this challenge," he tweeted. "McGregor Sports and Entertainment will host the bout."
"Does Cruise have the sprouts to fight, like he does in the movies?" McGregor demanded to know. "Stay tuned to find out!"
It seems unlikely that Tom Cruise will accept the challenge, though now that Justin has publicly admitted that it was a joke, he can at least respond.
At the risk of sounding little different from concern trolls, however, we're a little concerned about Justin's behavior.
Weird and embarrassing impulsive tweets may be positively presidential these days, but that doesn't make them good. Kind of the opposite.
Is the Biebs slipping back into old habits? We don't mean to imply that he's no longer sober, but his bad behavior began before he was ever drinking.
We hope that Justin is doing okay. For his sake, and for Hailey's.
