Jill Duggar is heartbroken… but inspired.
On Sunday, Jill and her relatives all lost a truly beloved family member when Mary Duggar suddenly passed away at the age of 78.
Mary was the mother of Jim Bob Duggar and, therefore, the grandmother of Jill and her siblings.
Upon learning of this death, Jill joined her fellow loved ones in paying tribute to Mary.
This is what she wrote at the time:
My heart breaks. My grandma died suddenly today! She was an amazing woman of God and such a great example to so many!
Grandma, you are greatly missed by all who knew you! She was a feisty, incredible woman who always took the time to talk about Jesus with everyone she knew!
I know she was ready to check outta here and get her new body in heaven before the old one started giving her too much trouble! We miss you so much!
While these were heartfelt and moving words, Jill did not feel as if they properly conveyed all Mary meant to both her and the Duggar family as a whole.
So she has gone ahead and written a lengthy blog post in memory of her grandmother.
“My grandma taught me to thank God in every situation, realizing that only He can see the big picture,” Jill wrote in the post, which she promoted on her Instagram page.
“She would say, ‘Praise the Lord’ all the time, and even talked about how thanking God for tough things that happened helped her release it to Him and acknowledge that he was ultimately in control.”
She sounds like an incredible woman.
“She was a great example to me and displayed many of the character qualities of the virtuous woman described in the Bible (in Proverbs 31),” Jill continued.
“She was an amazing working mom and grandma (she never really retired!), great at business (she was a long-time realtor) and was always looking for ways to serve others.”
Duggar went on to say that her grandmother, her was a succesfful realtor and businesswoman, often led by example.
“My grandma showed me by example that we must love others more than we love ourselves!” Duggar wrote.
“She would go out of her way to talk to people about Jesus. She was a real Christian and lived out her relationship with God for all to see. She also loved discussing the end times and Jesus’ imminent return.”
Grandma Mary made frequent appearances on 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On.
Her cause of death remains unknown at this time.
“Yesterday, I was in disbelief when I got the word that she had tragically died. I’m still having a hard time processing the reality of her passing,” Jill wrote toward the end of her entry.
“When I think about all the lessons my grandma taught me (this post certainly doesn’t cover them all!), I know the greatest lesson she would want me to remember and pass along would be this:
Nothing is more important than having a real relationship with Jesus Christ (repent of your sins, confess Jesus as your Lord, let him take control of your life and living for him with hope of life with him forever after death!). Life here on earth is short.
We are never guaranteed another day!
Beautiful words all around.
