Over the weekend, the world learned that Anna Duggar is pregnant with her sixth child.
Obviously, pregnancies are big news in any family, but the Duggars celebrate the news of an occupied womb in unique fashion.
For them, a pregnant woman is doing much more than fostering new life and preparing to welcome a child -- she's fulfilling her God-given duty.
The Duggars belong to the Quiverfull movement, which teaches its adherents that its the obligation of every Christian to have as many children as possible, so that they can shape policy and essentially overwhelm the global population.
Some fans have suggested that this belief system has left Jim Bob and Michelle's children with an unhealthy sense of competition in regard to procreation.
Whereas in other families, siblings might seek to win their parents' favor through career accomplishments or charity work, the Duggars have been taught from a young age that the one thing they can do to receive their parents' forever-divided attention is to breed.
Right now, in addition to Anna, three other Duggar women are expecting:
Jessa, Kendra, and Amy Duggar are all expecting children.
One of the only married Duggar women over the age of 25 who's not currently pregnant is Jill Duggar.
And apparently, for that reason, some fans were surprised when Jill was the first to congratulate her older brother on Instagram.
Jill posted the above photo, along with a caption reading:
"Congrats guys!! So excited for y'all!!!!"
Shortly thereafter, Jill posted about the new home that she and Derick Dillard recently moved into, leading some fans to the conclusion that she's trying to upstage her brother.
Obviously, that's quite a leap, but giant leaps are what Duggar comment sections are for!
It's worth noting that Jill is not the only member of her family to offer congratulations to Josh and Anna.
Jim Bob and Michelle expressed their joy in a statement issued to Us Weekly.
"We couldn't be happier to share with the world that our family is growing by one this Fall," the statement read.
"We continually stand amazing by God's love, redemption, grace and blessings in our lives. Our entire little family is ecstatic!"
As usual, the comments section featured the usual debate about whether or not it's ethical to have so many children in an overpopulated world, along with speculation as to who will be the next Duggar to announce a pregnancy.
(Not surprisingly, Jill was the odds-on favorite.)
Frankly, we agree it's surprising that Jill congratulated her brother, but not because we think she's jealous.
No, we're just surprised anyone in that family still has anything to do with Josh following the sex scandals that shocked thew world.
Yes, we have every intention of continuiong to bring that up.
