With two kids under the age of 4 at home, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard probably have their hands full already.
But since Jill comes from a family that values procreation above all else, fans have spent the past year expecting a pregnancy announcement.
The delay has led to reports that Jill is unable to have more children, and the Dillards' silence in the wake of such rumors has further bolstered those claims.
Obviously, if that's the case, our hearts go out to Jill and Derick.
But fortunately, it doesn't look as though the Dillards would allow such an unfortunate development to interfere with their plans to raise a Duggar-sized brood.
Jill and Derick have been discussing adoption as an alternative for several years now.
The couple's interest in adoption apparently began while they were performing missionary work in El Salvador.
Jill has stated that both she and Derick were heartbroken by the conditions in the Central American nation, and they were particularly saddened by the overcrowded state of the country's orphanages.
The topic of adoption came up again this week, when Jill promoted the anti-abortion documentary Unplanned on her Instagram page.
"Life is precious, no matter the gestation. #chooselife," she wrote.
"If you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy and abortion seems like the only good option, please, think twice and reach out for help!!”
A fan pointed out that for many pregnant women, the decision is considerably more complicated than that:
“Will you be there to adopt and help care for the pregnant mom who you forced into not making her own decision? Didn’t think so,” the follower commented.
Jill promptly responded, “Yes.”
Obviously, it's one thing to say something like that during a social media debate and quite another to actually adopt a child.
Still, the comment was taken by fans as another indication that adoption is definitely on the table.
As for the theory that Jill is unable to carry another child, it mostly seems to stem from the fact that she's already had two C-sections.
The first was unplanned, as Jill had hoped to give birth at home but was rushed to the hospital amid concerns about a bacterial infection.
Risks to the mother's health increase with each C-section, and it's expected that Jill and Derick will play it safe by not trying for a third child.
Of course, it seems unlikely that they're in any hurry to adopt, as the couple is currently raising two kids without any visible means of support.
Derick was fired from Counting On back in 2017, and Jill quit the show in a gesture of solidarity.
But if you thought a total lack of income would stop these two from expanding their family, you don't know the insanity of the Duggars when it comes to having kids!
