The more things change for Jon Gosselin, the more they stay the same.
Over the past few months, celebrity gossip followers have taken note of a very different Jon than the one we watched back in the day on TLC and in the years since he left reality television.
This new version of Jon is most definitely improved, as he seems to actually care about his kids for a change.
First, we were treated to several photos of Jon and daughter Hannah.
Then, we even got a glimpse of Jon hanging out with estranged son Collin, who has been spending most of his time since we can recall at a program that assists children with special needs.
And yet, Jon can't help himself.
He can't help but take a jab at his famous ex-wife any chance he gets.
In this latest case, however, we can't exactly blame the guy.
Back in late November, we reported that Jon had filed documents to earn full-time custody of Collin.
This was a huge deal.
It marked the first time Jon had actively, in a legal sense, moved to wrestle control of one of his eight kids away from their mother.
Fast forward to December 4 and a court hearing in Pennsylvania for a judge to hear both sides of this custody battle...
... only for Kate to simply not show up.
It's crazy, but true: Kate chose to not even participate in the hearing, meaning Jon was awarded at least temporary custody of Collin.
What happened? We have no idea.
But Jon has told Us Weekly that he wasn't shocked.
"That’s her,” Jon said to this tabloid at a WE tv event celebrating the return of Love After Lockup in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, adding simply:
“I would never… I would always go to court, no matter what.”
Jon and Kate, of course, rose to fame as the anchors of Jon & Kate Plus 8 on TLC.
The series chronicled their life with sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Joel and Aaden; along with older twins Cara and Mady.
But it also gave viewers a glimpse into a marriage that appears to be filled with constant bickering and eye-rolling.
The Gosselins finally divorced in 2009.
Kate starred alongside her kids on Kate Plus 8 for a couple years, but Hannah has now been residing with Jon since February of 2017, while the other children are with their mom.
She has been surprisingly quiet throughout the ongoing legal back-and-forth, however.
Heck, Kate has been surprisingly quiet in general.
She has only shared two photos of her kids on Instagram since August.
Honestly, we hope she's okay.
As for Jon? He couldn't be more psyched to have Collin around.
"He is coming home to our house, and he's going to enjoy the holiday with us, and go to school, and be with his sister, Hannah," Jon told Entertainment Tonight's Lauren Zima on the red carpet at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.
Added Gosselin in this interview:
"He's really excited and we're really excited to have him home for the holidays. And to enjoy the rest of his childhood."
Jon also said that Collin is "doing really well," although he'll probably have a few "adjustment issues" once he leaves his special needs program.
The long-term future remains unclear, however.
Assuming Kate does plan to legally fight for custody of Collin, another court hearing may be on the books in 2019.
But Jon says that's fine with him. He's steadfast in his desire to be a legitimate full-time parent.
"I've been fighting for 10 years and I will keeping fighting for as long as I have to," he concluded to ET.
