It’s been over six months Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married before an audience of loved ones, celebs, and TV viewers who were bleary-eyed either from wistful tears or from the fact that ceremony was broadcast freakishly early in the US.
And it seems the folks at home weren’t the only ones crying.
As you may recall, Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, skipped the ceremony, and initial reports indicated that he had suffered a heart attack just hours before he was to board a flight to London.
It later turned out that was BS, and Thomas just skipped out on the wedding because he sucks just as much of the rest of Meghan’s family (with the obvious exception of her mother, Doria Ragland).
In response to the news, Meghan issued a public statement that was every bit as classy and respectful as one would expect from a future royal:
"Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding," the statement read.
"I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health."
We should’ve known right then and there that Meg would have no trouble transitioning into royal life.
Feeling the need to publicly state that you "have always cared for" your own freakin’ dad is the most British thing ever.
But while she kept an extremely stiff upper lip publicly, Meghan was reportedly heartbroken by the news — as was her husband to be.
According to a new report from The Telegraph, Thomas’ refusal to attend "reduced both Meghan and Harry to tears."
The couple even made a desperate, last-minute appeal to Thomas, essentially begging him to walk Meg down the aisle.
Thomas initially agreed, then had a second change of heart and informed his daughter that he would not be making the trip, after all.
It was then, according to the report, that sadness turned to rage, and Harry and Meghan both became furious with Thomas.
According to a royal source, Harry is "understandably extremely protective," and he immediately sprung into action to ensure that the day would be a dream come true for his bride, even if her doofus dad chose to sit this one out.
The insider notes that Thomas’ absence "perhaps explains why the prince went to such great lengths to ensure his bride-to-be could have everything she wanted on her big day."
That included, of course, someone to walk her down the aisle:
The honor went to Harry’s dad Prince Charles — at the request of Harry himself.
"I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you,’" Harry recalled in a recent documentary.
So Meghan married into an awesome family to make up for the awful one she was born into.
Talk about a happy ending.
Now if only she could get Samantha Markle to quit stalking her, she’d be all set!
