It's beginning to look as though the Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt divorce will get uglier before it approaches anything resembling a resolution.
Most things in life are easier when you're rich and famous (or so it seems), but we're willing to bet that divorce is much tougher when every aspect of your personal life is fodder for tabloid covers.
Perhaps that's why Jolie is taking desperate measures to ensure that her children are as well protected as possible from the glut of rumors and recent increase in media scrutiny.
Angelina and Brad recently reached a temporary settlement that gives Jolie sole physical custody of the kids.
Insiders say Pitt is displeased with the decision, but did little to fight it, in part because he hopes to expedite the divorce for the sake of his kids - and in part because the outcome was somewhat inevitable:
“Brad was in an impossible situation," famed divorce attorney Raoul Felder recently told Radar Online.
"No matter what happened, there was nothing positive in it for him.”
“The charges that have been made against him may or may not be based in fact. We still don’t know — and Angelina’s played him like a violin."
Sources close to Jolie say that she left Brad in order to remove her kids from what she believed was a dangerous situation.
Now, according to People magazine, she's taken further steps to protect her kids by enrolling them in therapy:
“It’s been a traumatic situation," one insider tells the magazine.
The source says that immediately after the mid-flight altercation that resulted in Pitt being investigated for child abuse, Angie moved into an LA rental home along with her kids, some friends, and her brother, James Haven.
“She did what she felt she had to do to protect the safety of the kids,” says the insider.
The source adds that the children feel cooped up in the house, but Jolie sees little choice but to keep them at home:
“They didn’t leave the rental house for days. It was hard for all of them.
"They are used to more activities and more entertainment so it’s difficult for them to just stay at the house. The younger kids don’t understand what’s going on.”
As for their father, a member of Pitt's camp says the actor is absolutely devastated by the events of the past three weeks:
“[Brad] been absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the events of the past several weeks, both in terms of how those events have been wrongfully portrayed and how they have threatened to jeopardize his family’s ability to heal and move forward.”
Unfortunately, it may be quite some time before the media attention dies down and the healing can begin.
