As you've probably heard by now, Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after two years of marriage and more than a decade together as a couple.
Details remain scarce, but rumors about the cause of the split have been spreading like wildfire fire on social media.
As the couple has been plagued by infidelity gossip pretty much from the start of their relationship (That'll happen when you start hooking up while one of you is still married), it's not surprising that several outlets are claiming Brad got caught cheating.
Obviously, that remains a possibility, but TMZ is offering up a different (and, some would argue, more believable) explanation by linking the split to Brad's drinking and drug use.
No one is claiming that Pitt went off the deep end, a la Charlie Sheen, or that the actor suffers from any serious addiction issues.
Insiders believe, however, that Jolie became "fed up" with Pitt's drinking and pot smoking after several years of asking him to scale it back or quit altogether.
Pitt has discussed his fondness for intoxicants in the past, often claiming that he put the plug in the jug and threw the stash in the trash after becoming a dad.
For the most part, anyway.
In the below clip from Zach Galifianakis' YouTube series, Pitt jokes that he doesn't "play the bassoon in the house anymore" after being gifted with a bong on camera:
That was shot in 2014, and it's not the first indication that Pitt made changes to his lifestyle as a result of having kids and/or to comply with Jolie's wishes.
He once told Vanity Fair that Jolie isn't pleased that he still smokes "the occasional cigarette" (she apparently requested that he quit after he became a dad).
Then, just last year, there were rumors that the iconic actor was puzzled when he confessed to smoking pot with friends during a recent party.
(The fact that there were reportedly naked women running around the party probably didn't help his cause.)
So like we said, it hardly sounds like Brad's putting himself in any sort of serious danger, but perhaps Jolie figured that he should put the bong away for good now that they're kids are old enough to sort things out for themselves.
Many have pointed out that the character that Jolie wrote for Pitt in the 2015 film By the Sea (which she also directed and co-starred in) was overly fond of booze.
Was the film - which centers around well-off, but deeply unhappy couple - her way of coping with her increasingly troubled marriage?
But with how secretive these two are, it may be quite some time before we have any clear indication of exactly what went wrong and when.
But you can bet that the social media and celebrity gossip worlds will keep right on guessing.
