While some of your "cooler" pop stars are smoking weed with their exotic pets and posing for full frontal photos (We’re looking at you, Miley!) Taylor Swift continues to make her mark in less edgy, but far more important ways.
In the little downtime she receives on her non-stop schedule of touring and recording, Taylor has visited cancer patients, given social media shout-outs to depressed fans, and even handed strangers money for burritos, which should probably land her on the shortlist for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Now, Taylor is combining her love of education with her affection for her fans and teaming with Scholastic to donate 25,000 books to New York City public schools.
It’s a significant gesture, not only because that’s 25,000 books these kids didn’t have access to before, but also because few celebs have shown their young fans the power of words quite like Taylor.
We wouldn’t compare Taylor to Shakespeare like some folks have, but we will say that you’d have to go back to when a young Bob Dylan hit the scene in the early ’60s to find a time when a singer/songwriter’s lyrics have been the subject of so much analysis and scrutiny.
Don’t get us wrong, Miley, Selena, Rihanna, and yes – even Justin – all make important contributions, but when you’re talking role model material – Taylor is tough to beat.
