On June 17, the nation was rocked by news that 9 were killed in a church shooting that was later revealed to be a racially-motivated hate crime.

21-year-old Dylann Roof has confessed to the murders, but for those directly affected by the tragedy – and for hundreds of other black churchgoers in the South – the nightmare is far from over.

Roof’s heinous crime apparently struck a chord with other hateful bigots, as arsonists have set fire to six predominantly black churches throughout the region in the past two weeks.

No dollar amount can be placed on the amount of damage done by Roof, and there’s no telling how far-reaching the consequences of his horrendous actions might be.

So it’s understandable that many were outraged to find that Roof’s sister, 27-year-old Amber Roof, has requested $5,000 in donations to help pay for her wedding, which was postponed because of the shooting.

On a Go Fund Me page that managed to raise $1,500 in less than two days, Roof explained that donations would help to pay for her "dream honeymoon," as well as a ceremony that were canceled when her brother’s massacre destroyed her "perfect day."

She writes:

"Our wedding day was suppose[d] to be the most important and special day of our lives. It was suppose[d] to start our lives together with our new family.

"Our day was the exact opposite. Our wedding day was full of sorrow, pain, and shame, tainted by the actions of one man…We know [sic] money cannot replace the wedding we lost and our perfect day, [but it] will help us to create new memories and a new start with our new family.”

Some commenters were sympathetic, while others blasted Roof and her fiance, Michael Tyo for their insensitivity.

The page was taken down just moments ago, but it is knot known if the decision was made by Roof or by Go Fund Me administrators, who had reportedly been contacted with complaints.
