On Wednesday afternoon, former Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum announced his second campaign for Presidency in four years.
The conservative candidate Tweeted about how he wants to restore “the American dream for hard-working Americans” and “scrap the corrupt tax code."
Given his social conservative views and history with one embattled reality TV family, most people only cared about one thing at the moment, though:
Where does he stand on the Josh Duggar molestation scandal?!?
This famous family has been among Rick’s biggest supporters.
In 2012, the last time Santorum ran for President, and before Josh Duggar admitted to inappropriately touching five little girls as a teenager, they endorsed him.
They even filmed a campaign video on Santorum’s behalf:
Then, in 2014, Santorum went public with his support for the Duggars, at the time embroiled in controversy that now seems tame by comparison.
Rick praised parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar for having “raised their children in a faith-filled home, encouraging kindness and generosity."
So… where does Santorum stand now?
George Stephanopoulos actually brought up the heinous charges against Josh Duggar on Good Morning America today, prompting Rick to reply:
"I’m sickened by it. I’m just sickened by it. I pray for those girls, in particular. To have gone through that is just hard to think about."
It’s safe to say this is a MUCH better answer than the one given by Mike Huckabee, another 2016 Presidential candidate who recently defended Josh Duggar.
Partly explaining away Josh’s alleged actions due to his status as a "minor," the former Arkansas Governor said via Facebook last week:
“We have been blessed to receive God’s love and we would do no less than to extend our love and support for our friends…
"Let others run from them. We will run to them with our support."
Considering that Josh Duggar’s victims reportedly include his own sisters, Huckabee may want to rethink his strategy of courting the incest vote in 2016.
