In the May 2015 edition of Allure, actress Blake Lively tells all about raising her newborn baby daughter, James, with husband, Ryan Reynolds.
Sure, a newborn baby is a lot of work, but she seems to be loving just about every minute of it.
She expresses how motherhood is forcing her to re-evaluate the role of aging and beauty in the entertainment industry.
Lively says, “I feel like I've figured out the most important thing to me. And everything supports that.”
Her role in The Age of Adeline and being a mother has forced her to accept aging as a natural part of life.
In the article she asserts, "People are obsessed with beauty and youth and with looking and feeling young forever.”
She adds: ”But look at a woman who is granted that: She's trapped, because it's tragic to be young forever.”
At 27-years-old though, we aren’t sure why Blake is concerned about aging. In fact, she looks stunning on the cover of the Allure.
Photographed for the magazine cover in January by fashion photographer Mario Testino, Blake is glowing - despite that she only had three hours of sleep the night before the shoot.
Beyond the frivolities of aging in Hollywood, her daughter has inspired her to evaluate the role and importance of death.
She tells Allure, "Having a child makes you realize that we pass on for a reason. You think, 'I have to go, because it makes room for you.’”
Her interview wasn’t fully drowned in deep thoughts of life. She also talks normal mommy stuff.
For instance, she states, breastfeeding was “a full-time job” and adds that “I’m, like, driving down the road, pumping.”
Lively’s opening up about motherhood is unchartered territory for the private actress.
At the time of the interview, Lively and Reynolds refused to disclose their baby girl’s name.
"It's her life. She should have her privacy until she chooses not to have her privacy, just as I got to choose and my husband got to choose,” Lively insists.
However, the couple gave in last month when rumors of the baby’s name began circulating. Eventually, Reynolds confirmed the baby name, James.
Because she is notoriously private, breaking out of that shell during her pregnancy was difficult.
When she was expecting, she made the announcement on her lifestyle website Preserve with a photo of her belly.
"My brother took that photo - he's an amazing photographer," she says.
Lively continues: ”That moment was really neat, and I was scared to take that picture because I'm very private. I had a feeling that we weren't going to get away with our privacy for a while.”
Her decision to announce her pregnancy was her own method of empowerment.
“That was my way of owning that moment. I can’t be someone like Beyoncé and be like [her 2011 VMAs announcement]," she explains.
"But it was important for us. It was a struggle, because we want to keep our privacy, but we also don’t want our lives to be exploited by other people. So we did it simply; it was a quiet way, an elegant way,” Blake adds.
Blake leaves her fans with a piece of advice about “having it all.”
She states: ”Most of the things I do are all-consuming, but somehow I find a way to do it all. It’s not having it all; it’s about doing it all, but it’s dangerous to dilute that to a catchphrase.”
Having it all, according to Lively, is different for each mother:
“Having it all could be having a happy, healthy family, and you could be a mom who stays at home, and that is the most admirable thing you could do. Or it could be having a profession that you really believe in, and not having a family, and doing what fulfills you.”
It’s clear that Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and baby James certainly have it all. Even if he did just get hit by a car.
