American Idol kept things contemporary on Wednesday night.

The Top 8 took to the stage on a Billboard Hits-themed episode of the reality competition, which pretty much meant Tyanna Jones and company could sing any modern day hit.

This led to cover of such pop music superstars as Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. But did the covers do the original artists proud?

Check out all eight performances now:

Qaasim Middleton and Rayvon Owen were stuck in the Bottom Two, with the latter staving off elimination by getting all emotional on “Set Fire to the Rain.”

Middleton, sadly, was giving the boot after failing to dance his way into viewers’ hearts with a take on "Hey Ya."

Elsewhere, Jax rearranged “Poker Face” and certainly made it her own, though that may not have been a good thing; while Nick Fradiani struggled with pitch and breath support on “Teenage Dream.”

Quentin Alexander picked up the tempo (and the seduction!) via “Latch,” while Joey Cook sang “Wrecking Ball,” keeping her clothes on and making both Miley and Anne Hathaway smile.

Clark Beckham, finally, pulled out his electric guitar and served up a blues-like version of Ed Sheeran’s “Make It Rain,” while Tyanna Jones opened herself way up on Rihanna’s “Stay.”

Did the right singer go? Who ought to leave next? And who put on the best performance of the night?
