When it was first announced that Kathy Griffin would replace Joan Rivers on E!'s Fashion Police many doubted if the comic would be up to the task of dishing out scathing, Rivers-style snark at the expense of her fellow celebs.
Perhaps as part of an effort to prove her critics wrong, Griffin came out guns blazing on her debut episode last night, and her unlikely first victim caught the audience off guard:
"Yeah, she's annoying," said Griffin as a photo of Amal Alamuddin at the Golden Globes appeared on screen. "You heard me! Everybody run in fear! I thought it was weird that she had those gloves that remind me of, like, a porn scene."
Griffin went on to say that Alamuddin's gloves make her look as though she should be washing dishes or participating ina "bovine insemination."
Many have pointed out that Amal looked bored at the Globes, but as an accomplished human rights attorney (and - let's face it - the first woman in a long time to refuse to put up with Clooney's BS) Alamuddin isn't typically subjected to snarky put-downs.
Is this just what she should expect from life as Mrs. Clooney, or was Griffin attempting to prove that she's worthy of the Queen of Mean throne by attacking a widely beloved non-Hollywood type.
We don't know, but we hope Griffin bears in mind that Rivers is remembered fondly not because she was cruel, but because she was funny.
