Hope Solo’s husband Jerramy Stevens was driving a U.S. Soccer team van at the time of his DUI arrest early Monday morning, according to reports.
As previously reported, Hope Solo was suspended by U.S. Soccer after the incident, during which she acting "belligerent" with the arresting officers.
Still, the fact that Stevens’ arrest – Solo wasn’t cited – got Hope kicked off the team seemed unusual until it was revealed he was driving the team van.
Stevens, a former NFL tight end, was pulled over in front of a Manhattan Beach, Calif., hotel around 1:49 a.m. while Hope was in the vehicle with him.
Both of the athletes appeared to be hammered, according to TMZ.
Despite the fact she was being a "major pain" and heaving obnoxiously, the cops reportedly went out of their way to keep Solo OUT of handcuffs.
The police asked hotel staff member to please take Hope inside the hotel and keep her away from the situation while they arrested her husband.
Their goal was to prevent her from doing something stupid, thus forcing them to arrest her as well as Stevens, who was booked on suspicion of DUI.
She wasn’t charged with a crime, but the U.S. National soccer team was beyond furious that Hope, 33, allowed her husband to drive the team van.
It’s not a small deal. Had there been an accident – not a stretch, given his allegedly wasted state – the team could have been on the hook legally.
Just another chapter in the long, strange saga of Hope …
