It’s depressing but true:

Kate Gosselin and her kids are returning to television for a Kate Plus 8 special that will not include the children’s father and Kate’s estranged ex, Jon Gosselin.

But if you’re concerned over these kids once again being placed in the spotlight, don’t be. They are "extremely excited" for the opportunity… according to Kate Gosselin, that is.

Kate Gosselin: Kids Excited to Return to TV!

Kate tells Us Weekly that the kids "cheered like crazy" when she told them of the one-time TLC episode, which will be an hour in length and catch viewers up on where this family stands.

"It was like I announced that it’s Christmas tomorrow," Gosselin claims. "Our crew walked in and it was like they had never left."

That’s not necessarily a good thing, is it? Perhaps the kids should be used to life without cameras in their faces at all times.

Especially considering how petrified Mady and Cara looked when they stopped by the Today Show in January.

Jon, of course, is not included in this mini reunion, nor is he pleased about it.

"He thinks it is a really bad idea for his kids," a source tells the tabloid. "Jon feels he has his kids’ best interest at heart."

He can’t do anything about it, however. Insiders confirm that Kate is “not obliged” to tell her ex anything about twins Cara and Mady, 13; and sextuplets, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel, 9.

"Everybody is entitled to their opinions," Kate says of Jon’s many critiques concerning her seemingly self-involved mothering style.

"I don’t let it bother me or affect me that much. I’m led by my gut, my heart and doing what I’ve always set out to do as a parent."
