John Sundahl, a recovering alcoholic and the chairman of Britney Spears’ AA chapter in Los Angeles, told the “singer” as bluntly as he could:

“If you fall off the wagon, I don’t think you’ll live.”

In an exclusive interview with The National Enquirer, the man who’s been trying to help Britney through her nightmare of booze and drugs talked about the tough tactics he’s used in dealing with the troubled star.

“I told her: ‘If you don’t want to get sober for yourself, do it for your kids,'” said John Sundahl, who, along with everyone else in L.A., was rumored to be hitting that piece at one point.

John Sundahl concluded that Britney Spears has, in fact, slipped off the wagon at least several times, but the counselor added:

“She truly wants to stop what she’s doing… she’s changed her life in another direction. She doesn’t get drunk every night and pass out.'”

She could have fooled us.

Sources say the mother of Jayden James and Sean Preston has been pulling the wool over her eyes of late – and over those of her terrified mother.

“Britney is telling her mom (Lynne Spears) that she’s trying to get her drinking under control. But clearly she’s not,” an Enquirer source said.

Counselor Sundahl admits he last saw his celebrity client on June 1. Since then, Britney Spears has been on a booze-fueled rampage.

In early June she took sons Sean Preston, 21 months, and 9-month-old Jayden James to Hawaii. They later hit up Mexico as a break from her busy life.

“She was drinking to the point where she thew up all over her hotel bathroom,” said a source. “She later passed out, leaving [cousin] Alli to handle the boys by herself.”

On June 11, Britney Spears was back in L.A., spending a girls’ night out at Joseph’s.

“She was downing rum and coke, vodka, and shots of booze,” says the source. “She was feeling sad and reminiscing… and Britney drinks when she gets sad.”

It was at Joseph’s three years ago that Britney Spears first met Kevin Federline – a memory that may have been her downfall.

“The real problem for her is that she wants Kevin and the boys back with her… in a life like the one she had before.”

Right, because that was so great. But in all seriousness, Kevin Federline has shown since their divorce that he’s by far the more stable and responsible of the two, and is just as worried about Britney as her mother and the rest of the family.

“He insists she has a nanny at all times,” says a source.
