Lauren Nelson, an aspiring Broadway star, was crowned Miss America Monday night, the second year in a row that a Miss Oklahoma has won the crown.
Nelson, 20, of Lawton, Okla., is a student at the University of Central Oklahoma and wants to get her master’s degree in musical theater.
“I watched Miss America as a little girl since I was 2 years old, and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would be one of those girls on that stage, and never did I think that I would be Miss America,” Lauren Nelson said.
Nelson was crowned by last year’s winner, Jennifer Berry (below). The event was hosted by hunky dancing king Mario Lopez, who appears to be interested in trying to hit that later. Sorry, Karina Smirnoff.
Being a 20-year old blonde from the south, we can only assume Lauren will fall into a pattern similar to that of Tara Conner and kick off a three-month celebratory bender packed with booze, drugs and girls. Hard.
Maybe she can even bring along a Katie Blair-like understudy to all of her Miss America engagements. What’s the harm, right? Although Donald Trump doesn’t own Miss America pageant, so she might not get a second chance.
A word to the wise, Lauren: don’t bring the digital camera when you go out to the bars. You’ve seen what happened to Katie Rees, right? Exactly. She got screwed. In more ways than one.
